I finally got my parts in and I put my computer together today. Everything is running fine, it seems. Then to the Hackintosh installation... having some trouble.

Spec wise, here's what I'm using:

- Gigabyte EX58 UD5

- Intel Core i7 920

- GeForce 9800GTX

I downloaded the original ISO here as well as one further in the thread that had the dsmos.kext file already in there. The result of both is the same: I get to the boot screen and swap with my retail copy, press enter and it begins the Darwin thing. It shows the "/" spinning for a minute or two then quickly flashes the grey Apple screen with the logo before immediately rebooting the system.

I've tried everything but I can't get this to work -_- I thought maybe I'd need to use a bootable ISO with the kexts for my mobo (which are all right here), but I can't get any of the scripts to work to make the darned thing. I can't make a new img or resize the old one at all.

Also, before I swap the disc a message is displayed: "System config file '/com.apple.boot.S/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found"

I've tried a huge variation of enter, -v, -f, -x, etc, so I don't think that's the issue. I've looked around and it seems like others have had these problems but there's never a solution posted. Some folks say to reburn it, but I've done so a few times and no go. I really hope someone can help me with what feels like a common occurrence.

I managed to create a disc with the motherboard kexts by editing the IMG then reburning the ISO with UltraISO, but that didn't help it to boot either. I also tried burning grub and giving that a shot, and at the end it gave me a message about a kernel error. Then I pressed a key to begin installing and it flash the logo screen and rebooted my machine.

How on earth do I get it to work?

Hey mate, I've had the same problem as you for about 2 weeks now and even though I posted multiple times no one seems to help on this topic. Have you tried booting with these flags?

busratio=20 cpus=1 fsb=133 -v -f

Another member was successful in installing OSX retail with those flags but he had problems booting up after the install. I've tried to create a boot 132 ISO myself but it never worked for me, I'd really appreciate if you could post the modded boot132 ISO you have created with the x58 kexts.. I would really like to try it out and let you know how my system went with it.

Hope I helped and hope you can do the same, cheers mate

Good news, I got it to work by doing an entirely different process. This might work for you, too.

I downloaded Kalyway 10.5.2, burned the ISO and put it into the drive. I had to press F8 to go to additional options then -v -f and enter to get it to work, but the installer booted.

After it boots, go to disk utility and format both hdd, name one Kalyway and the other Leopard. Continue installation. When you get to the kexts screen choose the video one that will work for you (nvinject worked for me). Continue until it tells you to restart.

I ran into trouble here, as the computer wouldn't go back to Kalyway. I found that if I then put the unmodified boot-132 disc in, I could select 81 as my hdd and boot back into Kalyway, so I did that. Once I got back into Kalyway I put the retail version of Leopard in and used disk utility to make a .cdr version of it. After it finished I renamed it to .iso. Then I started the x58 installer patch (don't forget to eject your disc and mount your iso first). The patcher should take care of everything for you (install to Leopard partition and make it active) and then allow you to reboot. You'll reboot into your Leopard installation.

From there I installed all of the x58 kexts using OSx86 tools and rebooted, then used another fix (NVinstaller v.52.pkg) to get Quartz Extreme working (needed for Logic/Final Cut). From what I can tell everything is now working near 100% (I say 'near' since I had a kernel panic last night while I was sleeping, installing CS3). Other than that, things have been looking pretty good so far.

Good luck, and let me know if I need to re-explain anything.
