Rick S
I have just installed OS X 1.5.6 on my older Dual 2Gh Power PC G5 (not intel) and now when I open System Preferences (as well as some other system apps - Console being one), the app opens, but my panes AND menus are blank (though they seem to function). I can go to my System Preference pull-down and click where normally it would say "Quit System Preferences" and it will quit. Also, I can place my cursor over areas in the pane and click and it will function as if everything were normal (BUT I CAN"T SEE ANYTHING!!!). I have trashed preferences, old system folders, ran disk utility - repaired permissions. What else can I do??? glenesis
First, since it's a fresh installation, try re-installing 10.5.6 from scratch. It sounds like it's a corrupt installation. Second, if you have a copy of 10.5.4, install that instead, and don't upgrade to 10.5.5 or 10.5.6. 10.5.4 has been much, much more stable on the many, many Macs that I've had it running on, and I see no advantage to updating to 10.5.6. 10.5.5 and 10.5.6 have caused all sorts of graphic weirdness and many programs just spontaneously quit on me under those versions of the systems, sometime not until I'm totally settled into an installation of a system. I can't stand that. Really, go with 10.5.4. You'll be much happier.
