ihatevistamore
Hi, i have just purchased a new Dekstop, a Dell Studio Specs: Intel Q8200 Intel G45 Chipset Realtek Audio and Etherenet Ati HD 3650 Now i simply boot from the DVD, and type F8 and then '-v -x -y cpus=1' when prompted, wait for all the larger size script to run, then when i get to the smaller script, it starts going through it, and after 10 secs, it says 'Still waiting for root device! Now before that appears it starts listing stuff about the Firewire. Oh and it just keeps saying 'Still waiting for root device', again and again for as long as you leave it! I am sure there might be an obvious solution somewhere, but i cant find one! Any help would be VERY welcome, Thanks in advance! P.S. if it would help i could take a picture, showing what its saying for anyone who is kind enough to help! alsr71
Hi. I had a similar problem when trying to boot from the DVD. After several trials and searching through the internet I changed the "SATA as primary driver" from the bios to "Disabled". I had to physically connect an IDE HDD. After that I had succesfully booted the DVD and installed it. Unfortunaltely for me, I haven't found the right kernel for my chipset AMD 780G, and that makes that after the installation of Leopard 10.5.6, the panic kernel screen apears, but that's another problem. I suggest to check your bios settings and disable the SATA primary management from the Southbridge (If such is the case with Intel) or change the AHCI Mode in Bios. And that way you'll be able to install it. If it doesn't work, try using an IDE HDD or and external USB HDD. Best Regards Alsr71 PS. ihatevistamore
Ok, thanks! Edit: Well, have just had a look in my bios and it appears that there is no options to change 'sata as primary driver'. Also how would using a External HDD help, if the bootloader is loading on the pc with the Sata HDD? Because its the bootloader which is not working, NOT the actuall installation, thabks for your help so far, its appreaciated! It might work even if you are still using SATA HDD as secondary boot (Beacuse I realized that the DVD searches for a root of where to stablish the OS, and if it doesn't find a path, if panics with the "Still waiting for root device"). The OSX86 proyect, hasn't yet come with the right vaccine for this SATA problem. There are some chipsets that work flawlessly having connected ATA drives, but it seems that the managing of the bios of this drivers comes in consecuences like ours. I guess we would have to wait for some more time until the right distribution comes. Try downloading the latest Leopard 10.5.6 image. The problem you have might have been already solved in this release.
