Hey, after doing a bit of searching i found a few things, but none really seemed to work....

so i figured i had to start a topic... :)

So, ill try to post both questions in this one topic rather then starting two...

My Set up

Mobo:Ga-ma69gm-s2h

GPU: Nvidia 8000 GT

CPU: AMD Athlon 6000+ (64 bit)

OS x is running off a USB 500 gig hard drive

320 gig WD (x4) running in raid 0 (FOR WINDOWS)

Standard IDE DVD drive

OS x: 10.5.6

So my problems...

Ive been up and running for a few months now everything seems to work GREAT but two things....

1. I can not see my DVD drive... (i installed OS x FROM it fine) but once all loaded up... GONE....

2. I Can't seem to find drivers for my RAID controller card (So i can access my windows files.)

The specs on the board say

Chipsets North Bridge document.write(neg_specification_newline('AMD 690G'));AMD 690G South Bridge document.write(neg_specification_newline('ATI SB600'));ATI SB600

But... I don't quite understand if i need both... or just one or what... (If someone could just clarify, that would be AWESOME).

P.S-just thought id through this out there.. but sometimes OS x goes REALLY!!! slow (takes about 15 min to start up). ive noticed it will do it sometimes if i don't "eject" the drive from windows before restarting and booting into OS x... but sometimes it still does it and ill have to restart a few times.

^^ just a side note, if you know cool if not... MEH!

-Thanks!!

Storage controllers are in the south bridges, so you should be looking for SB600.

You can have several SATA/PATA controllers in one southbridge, and one specific controller can appear to the OS in different ways depending if they are running in IDE, AHCI or RAID mode, so its a bit more complicated than looking for 1 SB600 kext.

You can find out what do you have exactly installing the pciutils package and using the "lspci -nn" terminal command.

In your case, I think there is no driver that will let you see the SB600 RAID array from OS X and most likely you will need to install an extra kext to add support for the PATA controller that is handling your IDE DVD drive.

I have read people getting their sb600 raid working... (or is that too general and might not apply to me.)

Also, im not sure what Kext to look for to get the DVD drive recognized.

Would that also be part of the sb600 kext.... If so do you know where i can find it

ive looked but have only read people getting it to work with vague instruction, and no

download links...

P.S- I figured out my slow problem, When i did "verify" in disc utilities it managed to imenslyh speed it up... (NO idea why... but it worked).

-Thanks again!

You dont state if your drives are plugged to the SB600 ports or the SilI ports, but in any case I think there is no driver that will let you see the BIOS created fakeraid array from OS X. I dont know what you have read, maybe it was about getting *individual drives* working in RAID mode, but not the RAID 0 array.

This sb600 kext by chun nan should support the IDE controller too but I never tested it, if it doesnt work you might be able to use AppleVIAATA with a modded plist too.

Well another problem has arose... (this one MUCH more serious then the last).

So a few weeks ago, i updated my BIOS which in return resets all of my CMOS to default

thus disabling my raid. Which is not a problem because all i have to do is change the raid

controller from native IDE to RAID. and wallah; all is fine and it boots right into windows..

BUT, now that I installed the raid controller kext, so that OSX (installed on my external hard drive).

Can read my CD drive, it can also read ALL my individual drives IF I DO NOT SET IT TO RAID.

Which is what i forgot to do.... i reset my bios which set it back to native IDE, and so that next time i booted up OSX it saw ALL of my hard drives and gave me errs trying to mout/read them.

So i said oops, and loged out and into my bios to change it back to RAID, and then tried to boot windows... and nothing... The raid is set up all correctly nothing has been changed, the ARAY is being viewed as 100% operational with 0 erros.... So it's not the raid set up fault.... So i booted the windows Vista cd to see if i could just do repair, but... it did not find a windows installation...

So, with further investiageion windows vista is seeing the 1.2 terribte aray as not one hard drive.... but two... somehow, when i booted into OSX, it tried to make one of my drives a new paration...

So now on the array i see two partition one is 300 ISH gigs and the other 900 ISH gigs...

So basically... i am at a lass as to how to proceed next.... I don't want to just mess around with trial and error becuase i know messing with partions can be irevisbole.. and as you know... if i can't get this one hard drive back to normal ALL my stuff is GONE... (which CAN NOT happen).

So i figure i would post in here, becuase it is a related topic... and related to me...

(so all the specs above are the same).

-Thanks!
