CDRacingZX6R
OK, got a dell 1720. Got the install on it fine. Using the Iatkos 5 distro, seems to install fine. Internet, etc. Works good. The problem I'm encountering is when I update the software. I'm currently connecting my Dell 1720 to an external monitor. It works fine until I update, then I lose video. Or at least the video out, didn't really check to see if I have video on the main laptop screen. What can I do to remedy this? When I would install this distro on the laptop without the external monitor, there was no issues updating and using the laptops native monitor. It all worked fine. But with external monitor it kills the video. I've tried searching google, and hear and could mainly find only audio out problems/answers. Any help would be great. ashman1970
What kernel did you choose at install? From what I have read, you can only do updates with the vanilla kernel, otherwise you have to search for ways to apply updates that exist for your distro. OK, got a dell 1720. CDRacingZX6R
What kernel did you choose at install? From what I have read, you can only do updates with the vanilla kernel, otherwise you have to search for ways to apply updates that exist for your distro. Thats a good question. I didn't actually pick a kernal. I thought I read somewhere that we didn't have to pick one. Unless Iatkos 5 picks one automatically, I never selected it. So maybe the updating is killing my video drivers? The actual system seems to be on and thinking. But without the video I can't really tell. ashman1970
If you didn't select a kernel then you installed the vanilla kernel, in which case updates 'should' work, but there is no gurantee they might not mess things up which they apparently seem to be. Best bet is to scan through the threads ro google for people having the same or similar issues as you, sorry.
