parkerbender
So, it took all day, but I finally got my install working. I have been using 10.5.2 for the last year, from a Kalyway install. I got a new 1.5Tb drive, and started from scratch. I'm using xp's bootloader with tboot, and to get it to work, I had to use a mbr table in my formatting of the new mac drive, instead of guid. My system is a DG35EC Intel board, 8800gt 256 MB geforce, 2gb ram, Q6600 quad core, IDE dvd drive, 4 sata hdds (old fully setup mac drive, new mac drive, 2 windows drives) and a usb wireless key I have four questions. I really hope that someone will have an idea, if not, I guess it's mostly functional now... :S First, the apple disk utility, when installing, would only format the drive in mbr style if the partitions were under 500 gb, so, I have three partitions. Is there a better way / is there any sort of link to explain how to use chameleon? (I had searched and searched and can't find any info on how to use / configure bootloaders, except the xp bootloader, if a person wants to dual boot xp and osx86) and if there is somewhere someone could point me, is it possible to go back now and switch bootloaders? and/or consolidate at least two of the 500 Gb partitions? (two of the three are currently completely empty, except the 100mb fat table, or whatever the system file is that osx put there) Second, I'm using a usb wireless card, a belkin FD7050, (based on the zydas 1211 chipset) and am using the 4_5_9_0 zydas driver. When I boot I start with around 70% strength and 66% link quality in the gauges in their proprietary program, but, over just a few minutes it goes down around and sometimes bottoms out at 0% link quality. this happens about 65% of the time, and usually a restart will fix it. Also, when I boot, it starts two instances of the utility, how does a person remove an item from the startup queue? Third, talking about restarting, it is very unpredictable in it's restarting and shutting down, in that it almost always shuts down, but doesn't power down the system fan, when restarting (it doesn't restart, just shuts down) and when you ask it to shut down, it works half the time, and half the time it restarts. I know there is a fix in the installer for it, is there a way to install it now, after the fact? I'm pretty much setup and was hoping not to have to reinstall now... Lastly, and the least important, probably. For the last year, the system profiler has described the system as a Mac Pro 3,1 now it's "Mac" is there a way to change that? also, I thought I had read that if it doesn't read Mac Pro 3,1 it will not support more than 4Gb ram? If so, that is a problem, b/c there is 8Gb in the mail, that I'd hate to return... I apologize for the terribly long post, I guess this is what is left to fix after fighting this system for the last 14 hours... Thanks so very much for any help / opinions / insight!!! -Parker Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/155036-a-couple-problems-with-a-dg35ec-and-q6600/ Share on other sites

TheMechanic
I know this is the worst post you could have possibly read, but it sucks that nobody can help you right now. I need help myself. OS X on PC's is just a tough task. Probably a file here and there that need to be deleted. Good luck!!
