I'm a relative newcomer to the OSx86 front and I tried installing OSX86 on my XPS 700, but ran into way too many incompatibility problems so I built my own system:

Asus P5E-VM

Intel Q6600

4Gb (2x2Gb) RAM

ATI HD2600XT

ASUS WL-138 (ver 2)

250Gb Hitatchi HDD

LiteON SATA DVD Drive with Lightscribe

Anyway, I've tried SO many times, with many different options selected on most of the popular distros, and can't get it to work right. The best I can do is get OSX running with internet (that is RIDICULOUSLY slow btw) and no sound, and an iTunes that refuses to play songs (all it does is say its playing the song but the timer bar on the song stays at 0:00)

So I need to know what options to use and on what distro for this build, currently I would prefer to have 10.5.5 or 10.5.6, and I have the following distros available:

iDeneb 1.3 10.5.5 (downloading 1.4 right now)

iATKOS 4 10.5.5

iPC 10.5.6 (this one installs fine, but when it loads into the OS it shows a screwed up screen that's purple, black and strange)

Leo4All 10.5.2

Kalyway 10.5.2

I'm pretty new to this so specific examples and instructions are really appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi aguirrem2

My last setup is with XxX 10.5.6 final ISO and the settiongs I used are the following:

1-Default system and Kernel

2- Optional SystemKexts:

- dmos

- IntelCPUMDisabler

- SMBIOS Enabler

3 - Chipset Support:

- ICHx Chipset Support

- JMicron ATA

4 - Network Drivers

- Atlansic L1 Ethernet

5- Others:

- Hardcoded SMBIOS

- Apple SMBIOS-Macboolpro - Anv

- Boot prompt

6 - Legacy Kexts:

- TOh 10.5 Kexts

- Alcinjet

- Apple AC97 Audio

- IO NetworkingFamily

7 - Tools (all of them).

After the install, remove the CD, and enter Mac OS X the first time with the -f flag at the prompt menu.

As you may notice, I did not select a graphic driver, as I never managed to have it working out of the box.

For the ATI 2600Pro PCIe, I downloaded the drivers from Natit (http://www.mediafire.com/?taajnazpvsm) and istalled them after entering Mac OS X for the first time (use Kexts helper in the application or tools folder of your Mac). All resolutions work fine, but you have no QE at the time (hardware acceleration). As I need full graphic acceleration, I swapped my ATI card for a GeForce Asus GT 9400.

For all the other drivers, I downloaded them from http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=73046, and installed the the same way as the graphic card.

If you don't have XxX 10.5.6 final ISO, try similar settings with iDeneb.

Don't forget NOT to install the graphic driver from the Mac OS X install CD.

I hope that this helps.

If you need more help, don't hesitate in contacting me.

I'm new to all this as well, although I do have quite a bit of technical background on the mac, trying to get OSX going on non mac hardware has proved more difficult than I expected.

I have an older Dell Optiplex GX280 that I'm trying to get XxX 10.5.6 final ISO running on.

I had no problem starting up off the DVD, formatted the drive with Apple Disk Utility, and installed following the same way enzo1 did. When the computer restarts, it does to a Darwin screen, and I tell it to boot -v but after a few second of a spinning cursor, the computer just restarts into the same shell screen. For some reason OSX just won't boot up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That sounds like a Kernel Panic to me, try reinstalling from the DVD with a different kernel (try the 9.2 or 9.4 voodoo, that works nicely).

P.S. Thanks enzo, I'll try those tips, I'm searching for an XxX distro right now.

Hi

I looks like you left the install DVD in your drive.

When you resatart Mac OS X after installing, you HAVE to take the DVD out. (It happened to me until I figured this up).

Good luck.
