ok -- brand new kalyway 10.5.2 system, updated to 10.5.6 using, I think, the netkas method detailed elsewhere on this site and manually upgraded the kernel to voodoo 9.5.0. Since then, I've discovered quite by accident (i.e., when a routine ClamXav update and scan pulled up the console) that the system generates the following warning every 3 seconds:

23/02/2009 08:40:56 com.apple.kdcmond[50] krb5kdc: failed to initialize sandbox: Cannot apply builtin profile `krb5kdc': Policy not found

a quick Google search suggests that it might be something to do with downgrading seatbelt.kext to the 10.5.5 version (to avoid the infamous .dmg crashes), or possibly something to do with forcedeth.kext, which I don't seem to have.

can anybody offer any experience ... and, for that matter, tell me just what all this means? It hardly seems to be system critical ... but it is bloody annoying!

Never mind. I realised that the problem could be solved by installing the Voodoo 9.6.0 fork that's out there and reverting to the 10.5.6 kext. Bricked my system in the process (newbie-style mistake; I'm a dab Linux hand and Mac hand; but osX86 is new). Ended up having to do a reinstall and restore job.

But, in the end, it worked. seatbelt.kext was the problem, it seems.
