Benefits of using Kalyway patched disk vs. chameleon-like setup

I have been running leopard from 10.5.2 kalyway, updated all the way to 10.5.5. I decided to try and setup a new hard drive via using my original leopard install disc and Chameleon. I am having trouble getting my chameleon partition to boot and considering going back to the old kalyway version. What is the main difference in these 2 versions? I understand that you can do direct from apple update, but that's not a huge benefit is it?

 

The only thing I can tell, is that using the actual leopard dvd, it noticed my full processor speed where the kalyway disc does not. 3.42 vs kalyway showing 3.23. no big deal really.
