The following EASY :thumbsdown_anim: guide is working 100% for these specs:

- GA-EP45-DS3L

- E8400 (Duo Core 3.00GHz)

- 4GB Mushkin EM2 (DDR2 6400 800)

- EVGA Nvidia 9800GT 512MG

- WD 640 GB 7200 SATA 3GB

- SATA DVD Burner Sony

- Sonata III case

- LG 22' Glossy LCD Screen

= 1300 Canadian dollars taxes included

I used : burn them slowly for more reliability!

OSX IAKTOS 5i release

VISTA SPI Genuine (or another one ;)but ALWAYS with SP1 - because of AHCI support)

1/ Preparation:

Hardware:

Plug HD on SATA 0

Plug SATA DVD Burner on Sata 1

In the Bios:

AHCI enabled (you are in for a world of PAIN with Vista if you forget this ;-)

SATA 3G enabled

CE1 and EIST disabled

Boot priority: CD-ROm then Hard Drive

save and reboot from the DVD rom

2/ INSTALL VISTA FIRST!!! (this is the root of all goodness!!! :D )

- Put in DVD VISTA

- Admitting that it's a fresh install and there is no partition on the HD: Make 2 primary Partitions (or 3 if you want XP later) - Myself, I did 200 GB for VISTA, 250 GB for OSX and 150 for XP

- Click the first partition and install VISTA (you shouldn't have any error message "Windows is unable to..." like the one you WILL have if you try to install OSX FIRST :) )

- Follow installation instructions and let VISTA reboot time to time without to intervene (don't click start from DVD rom).

- Once VISTA is installed, reboot, Vista will launch, then go to COMPUTER, second mouse button, Choose DISK MANAGEMENT

- Select the one (or 2 if you left another partition for XP) unlocated RAW partition(s) and format them in NTFS and give them name OSX (and XP): this is easier to find them in Darwin Disk utility later (of course, DON'T ERASE the MAIN VISTA partition! ;-) )

- remove VISTA DVD rom and put IATKOS 5i OSX DVD

- reboot and boot from DVD ROM

3/ INSTALL OSX

- Choose Disk Utility then You should see your 2 or 3 partitions (depending XP choice), leave the Ds something alone (it's Vista), erase and format the second one you called OSX in OSX extented Journaled (and if you choose to leave a third partition for XP, format it in FAT)

- just before install OSX, choose these OPTIONS: AND NOTHING ELSE!

a) Iatkos Main System

b ) PC EFI v 9

d) smbios EFI (important if you want OSX to well recognize your hardware parts)

e) AppleDecrypt

f) Disable.kext

g) OHR

h) EFI String 8800 GT 512 (just because the 9800GT is in fact a rebranded 8800GT, it works like a charm with quartz and all and you can always find the 9000 Nvidia EFI string after installation if you want ;-)

i) Intel AHCI Sata (NOT Intel Sata)

j) realtek 1000 (and your LAN should be operational from the begining)

- Install OSX, when the green check appears reboot to your bios (DEL key)

- swap back the priority boot to Hard Drive in 1 and DVD in 2 (this is important because the eject button on your dvdrom don't work with OSX and darwin - you have to be IN OSX to open the damn dvdrom or it's another stop and go in the bios to swap the priorities!!!)

- reboot

- when Darwin boot gives you 5 seconds to launch F8, click F8, then type -v to launch OSX in Verbose mode IMPORTANT: don't let the Darwin boot to start without F8 the FIRST time, or you will receive a Apple gray screen ordering you to rebbot)

- you should get the OSX Hello Animation, That's it, OSX is working! (but you will have to tweak it later in order to make sound to work)

4/ DUAL BOOT ... is already WORKING!

- That's right, folks, no need to flag anything when VISTA is installed first, Darwin Dual boot is working perfectly from the beginning....

- Now and then, just hit F8 when Darwin gives you 5 second to choose your booting system before to go OSX native by default, so click if you want to go Vista

PS:

An addendum to this guide to tweak OSX to be fully operational (sound) will be done, until then just look on these forum to find the sound patches for this card (easy search).

For XP lovers, just don't forget to get a floppy drive to install AHCI drivers BEFORE to install XP (if not, here again you won't be able to boot XP in AHCI mode enabled)

That's all folks!!!! (I nearly killed myself many times installing this dual boot before to finally find the following GOOD recipe!) ;):P:D

Dude, thank you for this great guide. I have nearly the same setup like you. I have 9800GTX+ instead of your graphic card. I will try to install this dual boot in next few days (as soon as will be the PC parts delivered). I hope everything will go smoothly. Do you mind when I have then some questions to you (This will be my first Hackint0sh)? Thx for your reply

no problem shoot when you're ready...

Nicolas

absolutely! if not, once Vista is installed it won't boot if you enable it later to launch OSX for exemple, my guide provide the way to boot both system without to enter bios anytime you want to boot one system or another. I know there is ways to run macosx and VISTA non AHCI, but believe me, it's better to enable it from the start. Use Vista SP1 if you want ACHI ready from the begining, if Vista non SP1, you will have to follow the same painful way to install the drivers like XP BEFORE to install it.

By the way, I did a XP partition because I believed that some games won't play under Vista... that was wrong, 99% of my older games plays well with the XP SP2 emulator option in the exe. so you don't really need XP anymore, so far with Vista SP1, I didn't have a single crash and everything works quick and fine.

So I would like to thank you a lot for your guide! It is really what i needed for my dual boot installation. I had some troubles with iAtkos v5i installation, but it was because of my graphic card. I have 9800 GTX+ and there was some kernel panic during the installation.

So my options was (after many many tryings)

a) Iatkos Main System

b ) PC EFI v 9

d) smbios EFI

e) AppleDecrypt

f) Disable.kext

g) OHR

h) Intel AHCI Sata

i) realtek 1000

Then i had to install EFI strings for my graphics myself. Thats it. So I have now perfect dual boot machine.

So , thank you once more!
