I am looking to buy hardware for an installation of OS X using the Boot-132 method. I am wondering what hardware configuration would be considered "ideal", or at least which one would provide the fewest headaches in my attempt to install Leopard. I have been looking at the Gigabyte MB, however the one most recommended does not seem to really be available, so a recommendation on this piece in particular would be greatly appreciated. In addition, I am looking at video cards with the 8800 GTS or GTX chipsets, again a recommendation would be valuable. I don't think the memory, hard drive, etc.. matter as much, so really which MB and video would be best suited for my goal?

Thanks.

After poking around on the forums I decided to use a Gigabyte GA-EP45T-DS3R. I had a number of glitches due to lack of experience and not always knowing where to look for the answer. I needed to switch a USB keyboard and mouse, enable my SATA ports as AHCI, and eliminate any IDE devices, but after that it went pretty smooth and there are some pretty big threads that include that board to lean on for help.

Did you use the Boot-132 method and install the vanilla 10.5?

DS3L Kit, which implicitly uses Boot132 and the EFI Partition, installing Leo retail and then updating to 10.5.6.

GA-P35-DS3L (works out of the box, because the method is designed around the DS3L), also GA-P35-DS3R (with a hack on account of this mobo's ALC889a codec), also Shuttle P35 (with a hack on account of this mobo's Marvell G-bit LAN chip).

I tend to avoid the LAN issues by using a $7 R8169 G-bit LAN card. The Realtek 8169 chip has been supported by Apple since nearly Day One.

Although P35s have gone "end of life", they are still very good mobos.

If you are looking for a more recent mobo, I highly recommend the GA-EP45-UD3P.

Its going to cost ya a bit more money than a P35-DS3L, but its very well supported. Perhaps more so than

the P35 board.

I just built a machine with the EP45-UD3P, Intel e5200 cpu and its smoking fast. I used a PNY 9500GT video card.

My install is a vanilla install that fully updates.

Rock stable.

I am looking at using a ZoTAC ZT-98GES3P-FSR GeForce 9800 video card, will this cause any issues? Will I be able to fully utilize the cards functionality under OS X?

Also, I would like to use the Logitech Wave Pro keyboard which using a 2.4Ghz wireless dongle, will this work?

Thanks.
