Hi, Im sorry I cant really help you much - im a noob also  - but im having a problem similar to you - here

I have come to the conclusion that it may be motherboard issues or something to do with hardware - as i have tried alot of different suggestions and none seem to want to work, it always comes down to "still waiting for root device". My dvd reader is on ide channel and my hdd is on sata but i am trying to install to an external usb hdd.

If you figure out anything that may help me i would be greatful, i will let you know if i get anything working :thumbsup_anim:

Cheers.

Read the notes provided with the iPC ISO as well as the guides written for it in these forums. Make sure you follow those that are relevant to AMD machines.

Some quick notes:

- set your BIOS SATA controller to AHCI mode

- in the installer, make sure you have the correct motherboard chipset kext selected for your machine

- root device errors are directly related to kernel type, partition type and activity flag, and ATA controllers

- choose the right kernel for your machine (usually XNU or Voodoo for AMD)

- when using Disk Utility to partition your hd, select the option MBR for custom ISO builds. for retail installations, use GUID

hey ForrestGuardian I am also having a problem very similar to fionny (still waiting for root device) here

I have an Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2220 @ 2.40GHz cpu and i have tried the AHCI mode and other suggestions but still get this error...

would you be able to suggest anything that may help me further the installation of osx86

thanks heaps

Thanks for the reply, the bios doesnt seem to have AHCI options anywhere within it, however the partition im trying to install onto is part of a raid (which i read includes AHCI when its enabled). Is it that its looking to the wrong drive or something?

I never get to any GUI to use the Disk Utilities or any of that.

Thanks,

Fionny

If you can't install another, or don't want to replace your current dvd drive, the simplest thing to do is to use a cheap, external usb dvd drive. Apart from that, I don't know of any custom Leopard DVD images that will boot from IDE -- it's very rare that they do. If there is one, I don't know what it's called. You may just have to download another build and keep trying.
