dragolas
First of all I want to thank the iPC team for the iPC 10.5.6 release. That was the first successful install of OS X I could manage on my machine. Needless to say it works almost flawlessly (else I wouldn't be here right now.) Okay, my problem is this. I have the Intel 915GM/910/915GMS chipset in my laptop. My laptop is an HP DV4225nr. Almost everything works out of the box, sound, keyboard, mouse...etc. However, after a fresh install, I am only able to boot in safemode. Following the commands in the installer I boot with the -f flag to reset the drivers. Then, I get a messed up screen which I can replicate and post a picture of if need be. So I reboot, with -x and everything works fine (except sound, of course.) When all this happened, I concluded drivers. I DID select the "Intel 915" driver set for my system. So I remove all AppleIntel kexts and move them to another folder. But i left the framebuffer kext. I reboot -f, system fine. EXCEPT, I cannot play videos through VLC or Quicktime. Everything else seems visually okay... Even though, I'm using "VESA" drivers, I think... I will go through my system specifications and the drivers I selected, and I hope someone can tell me what is wrong. I understand that I need "proper" video drivers for my system to play videos correctly, but I'm unsure how to get/make them myself. System: 1.4 Ghz Intel Celeron M Processor 360 768 MB RAM Intel 915GM/910/915GMS Graphcs Card 60GB HDD Altec Lansing Sound Card Broadcom 4318 Wireless Card Ethernet Card -- Not important to me. Modem -- Also Irrelevant. Customization Options Selected: Voodoo 9.5.0 Kernel Intel 915 Video Drivers Broadcom Wireless Driver ICHX chipset Driver (Ubuntu used to say I had ICH6 if that makes a differance) AC97 Sound Driver (Windows used to say something about having AC97 modem and Sound.) Apple Power Something (Can't remember, had something to do with battery power.) PS/2 Keyboard Fix I later installed the Seatbelt kext after not being able to mount .dmg files. For now, though... Everything works except watching videos. It works very well, actually. So I will continue to use the system until a fix or solution comes, but I would appreciate haste! I miss watching FLCL, and I can't without proper video card drivers!!! Thanks in advance. EDIT: I forgot to add, that video completely doesn't work (I get blue screen) unless I short out VGA pins 6 and 12. I hear this is common and shouldn't really be concerned with it. I actually have a solution for that I'm quite happy with. Just a small band of copper that's barely visible. I rarely use an external monitor anyway, so I don't mind. EDIT2: I just tested Quicktime compatibility and it will play "some" files from my phone. .3gp files. Other files like .flv (which I play in VLC) will show sound, but no video. I downloaded a "component" file to get Quicktime to play .avi files and it seems to be working just fine. Maybe I'm missing codecs...? In that instance I would still like some help, but again, any suggestion is welcome! nepsong
try this method : http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=141549 I haven't try it, but many people had success with it Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/148242-intel-mobile-915-graphics/#findComment-1049632 Share on other sites
dragolas
I tried the above mentioned link/fix and with "some" luck. I now have Quicktime working and playing AVI files with full acceleration and all that. VLC however, refuses to play my .mkv files. It's just a black screen, but since quicktime works, I assume it's a codec issue. Other than that, everything is PERFECT for my installation. Well, actually, I have an Alps touchpad. I'm not sure if there is a driver for this or not, but it slightly irritates me that I can't get the little "scroll ridges" as I call them to work. I can live without them, though, but if anyone knows of a fix for that, it would be great! Thanks again, dude. EDIT: I just tried installing a free "City of Heroes" trial and it complained about not having hardware acceleration due to a driver error. So... I Don't have hardware acceleration? Everything else works fully, though... I'm confused. dragolas
Fixed! I tried the above thread to a "T" with a set of the origional Leopard AppleIntelGMA950.kexts and voila, just like magic, WoW installs, VLC loads up, Menubar is semi-transparent, and I don't need a thin band of copper in my vga card anymore. I would be willing to post the set i'm using in a zip file or something if someone wants it. Other than that, this thread is basically trash now! Thanks again, Nepsong! This was really YOUR victory!
