Did you choose stock ACPI modified or x86 ACPI, plus APIC driver......if not, you could try doing so...... Also, did you choose SMBIOS enabler/resolver.......or a patched x86 SMBIOS........if the former, then try the latter........ Please explain that to me :\ How would you patch the BIOS? I thought about that because my BIOS (Phoenix) gave no option to edit ACPI Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/145868-kernel-panic/#findComment-1034486 Share on other sites

I thought about that because my BIOS (Phoenix) gave no option to edit ACPI I am not talking about BIOS patching at this stage........In the iATKOS v5i Install DVD Customise menu......see what ACPI - APIC fix options you are presented with?......also look for SMBIOS options........ FusionIce
I never get to see that menu, it boots from the DVD, Darwin text with black screen which I tried -v on. And then after that is a black screen with that error. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/145868-kernel-panic/#findComment-1034540 Share on other sites

You may not have all of the following options but if you do then set them as follows ACPI Suspend Type [s3 (STR)] ACPI APIC Support [Enabled] CPU Internal Thermal Control [AUTO] Limit CPUID MaxVal [DISABLED] Enhanced C1 (C1E) [DISABLED] Execute Disable Bit [ENABLED] Virtualization Technology [DISABLED] Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology [DISABLED] Configure SATA as "AHCI" or Serial-ATA Configuration [Enabled] JMicron SATA / PATA Controller [Disabled].....if JMicron present.....unless it works for you [Enabled].....but JMicron is known to cause problems for some....but JMicron patches for OS X Install DVDs are now appearing...... JMicron Controller Mode [AHCI]....if present..... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/145868-kernel-panic/#findComment-1034544 Share on other sites
FusionIce
Like I said, my version of BIOS (Award Bios Phoenix) never even mentions ACPI. Is there a way to upgrade/patch BIOS to show these options? Is there a way to upgrade/patch BIOS to show these options? Depends on your MOBO brand/model number......that is why I asked you to post the details......other readers may have the same MOBO......and so can help if they have been successful..... verdant
HP Pavilion a1010nI also downloaded a BIOS update from hp.com but didn't really change anything... AFIK your MOBO has Intel 845GV Northbridge and Intel iCH4 Southbridge chipsets, AC97 audio, integrated video, integrated LAN.......so you need to choose try a distro that has Intel iCH4 chipset drivers.......you need to do some research using insanelymac as one of your search terms in google plus iCH4......
