Time Machine Fix - How is it done?

Does anyone know anything about how ToH's fix for IONetworkingFamily.kext works?

 

I'd like to apply the fix to the 10.5.5 version of IONetworkingFamily.

I tried doing a diff, but there are too many differences to see an easy

solution. I'd like to know the principle behind the thing so I can keep

my system up to date without installing an old and mysteriously-modified

version.
