Hello fellow members of the form,

As you may have guessed, I have a bit of a problem. Being that I am unfimilar with OSX, logic dictated that the safest route was to use a Vmware "image". My thanks must go to PCWiz (leo4vmware) and gnubeard (VmacTools) for their hard work. Being that I am realitivly new to OSX (other than some time trying to use the "deadmoo" image of Tiger OSX), my first action was to update, which caused a kernel panic. Is there a way to safely update?

The process to reach the panic was a follows:

Strangely, the Ethernet driver "worked but not" with out patching. But who am I to complain, it worked at least. One simply had to restart the VM with the connection as bridged not bridged with "replicate physical network connection state. It must be noted that this was with a router (automatic DHCP).This is using VMware workstation 6.5.0 build-118166.

Although it seems to be patched already...

Updates were downloaded in a seemingly normal manner...

The obligatory restart -> kernel panic

Maby I have missed a few important steps. I was under the impression that everything was patched to fully work with a virtualized hardware. I do fear that some sort of kernal swap had occurred as part of that 608MB package. Dependent snapshots will save one's bacon in such situtations.

Possibly asked questions:

Q) Why is one of your picture albums called `Crapple'?

A) No athlon support + if you had to deal with zeliots (on a personal, face to face level) you would learn to hate Windows, Linux and OSX. Especially when one has friendly relations with each, things go wrong fast than you can say "blood feud". The albums of `Winblowz' and `Tuxsux' will be added later on.

Q) OMG where did you find [some application name here]?!?

A)

You will not get a link to the torrent used nor hashes for it.

Q) Did you try other distros of OSX?

A) iATKOS v1.0i on the VM, JaS.10.4.8.Intel.SSE3.Only.Install.DVD on the physical computer, Tiger_for_x86pc_(by_Viper) on the VM. Only Tiger worked, the others refused to even install. As am image or burned to a dvd.

the Apple update cannot be aplied without some patching. You shoul have read that before. We are not using real Macs, so...

anyway, you need a kernel that can be used with your system. I recommend the Voodoo kernel Public release. Google for it. and use OSX86Tools to install if you don't know how to use a terminal.

For the 10.5.5 update please read carefully this post, and use the patches. I hope it works for you:http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=109102

after updating, install the voodoo kernel amd system kext that comes with it.
