The Minstrel
Kalyway 10.5.2 works fine provided I install with Patch 1 and I tried to mirror those results as close as I could on iDeneb, but to no worthy results. Last night I got tired and through in some settings (no, I can't remember it) and I managed to get to the setup screen. It would go as far as the Time Machine backup section (screen 4, is it?) and then would reset to the first page of setup and this would continue over and over again, no matter how many times I went through it. For some reason I had booted into it in safe mode (wasn't thinking, I guess) so when I had realised my error I reset the computer and hoped it would solve my problems... but no, it came up the 'Reboot' screen. Verbose mode doesn't give me any important information aside from a USB family issue (no kernel panics etc) I dunno, can anybody give me any recommendations? Specs are in the sig. Edit: Heh, well don't I feel like an idiot. The system actually installs, but it doesn't go much farther than that. Once I reboot into OSX it just hangs on the apple loading screen (it just doesn't stop loading, the grey ticker just keeps going around). The Minstrel
Update: I've blown up two PSU's! I figured I'd just leave iDeneb overnight to see what happens and I heard something spin down. I figured it was either one of my hard drives or maybe the DVD-RW, so I turned the system off and left it for a few hours (in this time having an attack of insomnia) and turned it back on. I figured that I should reinstall Kaly on a separate partition, which I did and then attempted to install iDeneb on another. About five minutes into the installation I heard a pop and the whole system shut down, so I leant behind the computer to unplug the euro lead and I smelt burning (I had smelt the same smell earlier on in the day but didn't give it a second thought for some reason). The PSU was hot as hell so I unplugged it and had a peek inside... oh it was fried alright, there was a small fire. I installed a second PSU (that I knew was faulty) to double check my hardware and that gave out on me. Anyway. I've been visited by the evil blue smoke too often. Any advice for the (original) issue? The Minstrel
Just ran a test with the new PSU. In Kaly the fans were maxed out. In XP the fans are running as quietly and as smoothly as ever. Strange, I wouldn't have expected it to affect the PSU (don't ask why, it just didn't occur to me). Oh well, it's the risk you take, right? Have any of you guys had any problems with PSU/fans while you've been running a Hackintosh?
