Red Rebel
Hi all, I am a college student researching on whether it is cost, and functionality wise to build one of these systems (Hackingtosh). I am very computer literate, and I am quite capable of building one of these systems with only limited help I am sure. I am starting a Web Design and Interactive Media course, and I would be using the system for school assignments. I currently have no hardware, and would be building the system from the ground up, rather than trying to get the os to work with my hardware. After reading several tutoriasl for beginners on this site, I still have a few questions. Using the most compatible hardware, Is it possible to build a machine that is comprable to the Mac Pro in performance and functionality? I will be using my system for rendering video... I can't afford to buy a Mac Pro at this time, and would be willing to settle for a Hackingtosh, however, if stability, performance and functionality are not there, I may be better off buying a lower end mac that I can afford. What are your thoughts on this? Any input would certainly be appreciated and extremely helpful in making my decision on whether to take on this project. thanks again..... Red Rebel
After researching this for a few days, I have decided against it. I think I will stick with buying a real Mac. Too much potential for trouble. There are too many variables, and the information is presented in a hap hazzardly fashion. It is not worth my time, and too many things can go wrong now, or in the future. Maybe after the project is further refined, I would be willing to give it a shot. Synaesthesia
You can get a computer that is comparable in stability, performance and functionality of a mac. It takes a bit more work and trouble than buying a Mac though. And a Mac still has some advantages. If you're buying a Mac Pro, wait until January, when Apple is expected to announce the new Core i7 Mac Pros.
