Hey guys, quick question for ya. For those of you who dual boot with OS X and XP, what program do you use that allows you to select which OS to boot into whenever your computer starts?

At the moment, I have to keep changing the hardrive boot order in my bios in order to work back and forth between OS X and XP. This is quite annoying and I would love to know how to go about fixing this.

Secondly, I did a fresh install of Kalyway 10.5.2 earlier today with the vanilla_92 kernal. Everything is working great except that whenever I choose to restart or shutdown the computer while operating in OS X, the screen turns black like it would normally do and then my computer just sits there refusing to restart or shutdown. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

If it helps, here are my system specs:

What's not listed in the pic above is that I use Intel quad-core, Kagome XP SP3 RTM (for my windows xp on 1 of the internal hardrives), and finally for audio recording purposes I use a Presonus FP10 and the soundcard within this device as well.

Thanks!

If you have Xp and OSX on separate hard drives you might be able to use the Darwin bootloader to choose. I use the F12 bootloader option in my bios to pick other drives to boot from. It is better than changing boot order if you have that option. Your P35 chipset should be similar to mine so maybe your bios has that option as well? I have read about others using different bootloaders that allow dual and triple booting though. Search the forum for that info.

There are many shutdown problem solutions as well on the forum. The search tool might give you your answer. Searching can be overwhelming though as there are lots of posts to look through!

Thanks bro. I'm gonna check out my BIOS for that F12 option you were talking about. I'll update this thread once I figure it out : )

UPDATE: Although I haven't been able to locate that F12 option. I did however get my computer to restart and shutdown. This entire time I've been using the OpenHaltRestart-1.0.3.kext version of this particular kext. But as someone in the IRC pointed out, you're supposed to open this this kext to find another kext within it called OpenHaltRestart.kext.

This is the real kext you should be using and then follow the above procedures in the original post. Best of luck!
