lenmac
Hey all.. few years back bought a cheap Sound Blaster 128 off of ebay for $10.. just wondering what the cheapest option would be to get an add-on card for my hackintosh. wish I could get mine working properly, as there's nothign wrong with it.. but seems that the only people using it or have any information is years ago, and development on the Maxxuss driver that it uses has stopped. Thanks again.. great forum and has helped me with many other small issues in the past... this one unfortunately.. is lingering and starting to get annoying ;-) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/137825-cheapest-option-for-new-sound-card-since-ct4810-is-a-no-go/ Share on other sites
Riley Freeman
I was looking into this too as my SBLive is pretty much EOL as far as current and future OS options are concerned (the OS X port of the kxproject driver is progressing, but there's no 64-bit Windows support on the horizon and the Creative drivers all BSOD for me). So I reckon I'll probably switch to onboard and use the digital out. But for cheap PCI cards, the Terratec Aureon comes in two flavours: the 5.1 uses the CMI chipset (87xx I think) and the 7.1 uses the Envy24HT. Both have third-party drivers here, though only the Envy one is in active development. The 7.1 isn't that cheap, but the driver may be better so I've included it. Here's both driver threads (CMI) and (Envy24). lenmac
Thanks for the reply! That's pretty helpful actually.. I wonder if anyone else out there has done the same thing and gotten sound to work otherwise.. surely there are some inexpensive cards one could buy?
