iCF-74 ToughMac
Not sure this is in the correct forum - but considering Vista was breathing before I began my numerous OSx86 installs... For a week or so now my Vista volume has been out of reach. I cannot seem to fix it. Disk utilities doesn't offer any help, as all the repair options are not highlighted. I tried the G-parted disk, but cannot repair that way either - I get an error, and the details indicate the Vista volume is corrupt. It suggests I perform chkdsk /f and reboot a few times, but using the terminal in the gparted software I cannot perform that task because the Vista volume is read only. Is there another way to repair this? Currently I'm running a dual boot Vista/XxX Leopard 10.5.5 I have a third partition for time machine backups, but unfortunately I never backed up the Vista volume therefore repair seems my only option. Ideas? Thanks in advance, Joe Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/135918-bricked-my-windows-partition/ Share on other sites
Comando156
This happened to me after i installed osx86 Yesterday on another partition. Leopard was booting but vista could not. I used the vista repair disk to try to recover the boot.ini , and make a duel boot menu, but it gave me an error saying disk is unreadable. So i rebooted OSX, and unmounted the Vista Drive, Then when back to vista repair disk and got vista to boot. Then from inside vista i rebuilt the boot.ini, to have a clean menu to choose from during boot. Mainly, the problem for me was that vista was reading as damaged because it was unmounted properly. Make sure it is mounted correctly. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/135918-bricked-my-windows-partition/#findComment-962921 Share on other sites
iCF-74 ToughMac
Thanks Comando, That pointed me in the right direction. Eventually after simply unmounting the Vista partition in OSx didn't get me anywhere I used G-parted to change the boot flag to the Vista partition. Once that was in place the Vista recovery CD worked it's magic during a couple repairs. Vista boots again. Phew ..
