I have a dell dimension 4500, it had no dvd drive so my friend gave me his. I took the cd drive out and swapped it with the dvd one....plugged in fine and you can hear it spin and open...seems to work great, im running ubuntu 8.10 and it wont play dvds. i tried booting from the bios and cant seem to enter the bios. i downloaded iatkos10.5.4 dvd for intel. i honestly have no idea where to start and any help would be greatly appreciated THANKS!

There are several ways you can try:

*Update new BIOS from Dell for your system model

*Use an external enclosure for your DVD drive and boot from there

*Use an SATA/IDE to USB adapter and connect your DVD drive to it

*Download VLC media player software for your OS and play the DVD disc

*If that doesnt work, UPDATE DVD drive BIOS or firmware. Your DVD drive may have region settings problem, either you already changed the region to a different one that your DVD disc is not allowed to play, or you have reached the limit of changing region settings. In that case, find a utility to reset your DVD drive region settings.
