~rTP
I installed JaS and it goes to the setup and everything. It says "Server Assistant is collecting system information." and gives me the spinny progress bar, but it doesn't ever stop and the "continue" option is available, so I just click that. It asks me about my keyboard layout, etc. and then I get to the "Serial Number" screen. I have tried several serials, but what looks to be the best one--[removed]--is what I have been using lately, though they all give me the same problem. Side note: I had to reset the date on my clock to one year earlier, otherwise it gave me the "your serial number has expired" error when I used that serial. No matter what I do: change the Registered to/Organization fields, have the internet plugged in or not, use different serials I even left it OVERNIGHT but it simply won't finish this process. It just gives me that stupid little spinning thing and says "Validating Serial Number" forever. I have tried bypassing it with Command + Q and this worked once, but I didn't get very far because I couldn't login or do anything until I entered a serial. But now it doesn't even give me the option, just "Shut Down" or "Continue" ("Continue" being try the serial again) when I do Command + Q. PLEASE HELP!!! wingwing
...here is the help for you: BUY a OS-X-SERVER-LICENSE - That will give you a valid serial... If you realy need the Server - you can buy - sure... No more comments needed. For OS-X (without Server) we all have to buy also one OS-X-DVD-version, because we don´t want to steel - we want to run that system in other hardware !!! ~rTP
But what I'm trying to say is that no matter what, the problem ISN'T the serial. I've tried many serials that worked for everyone else, some people even tried it after me. If I buy a serial, it won't solve the issue. ~rTP
Okay, well I had found a few instances of the same problem, but no one else had found a solution either. Finally, after a lot of searching through Apple's online guide, I finally figured it out and now I feel really stupid. I was trying to set it up as an "Advanced" server and then (if possible) setting up an Active Directory on it, but setting up an "Advanced" or "Workstation" server requires an AD to already exist on the network! All I need to do is set it up as a "Standard" server. Of course, there are no drivers for my integrated network interface, and setting up a Standard server requires an active internet connection, but I'm going to run out and get a supported card tomorrow. So now that the solution is out there, hopefully no one else will run into this problem. ~rTP
The problem was I couldn't get into safe mode. I read that you could also move com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist somewhere else. I did that, only to be confronted by a file permissions hellhole, and I got a wacky error in Disk Utility (from DVD). It was a new system, so there weren't any really important files on there, so I just erased the HDD and reinstalled. As soon as the new OS was up, I unloaded mDNSResponder.plist, so I don't expect to see that problem again. Tipmen999
I purchased a copy of OSX 10.5 server off ebay for $185 dollars, and am trying to install on JAS 10.5.4 on an old laptop, I have spent two days trying to get it to go past the swirling "validating serial number". I KNOW FOR A FACT THIS KEY IS LEGIT, but it just keeps on spinning, not even this serial in expired/invalid. Some many people are quick to jump down the throats of other people, This is an osx86 specific issue I believe. Can anyone help? I too can't force it into safe mode. Any Suggestions, or is this release pointless bc nobody can validate there serial keys.(Maybe the problem lies in the fact i'm using a legit key?)
