Display suspends upon booting leopard

I have had trouble loading leopard of any form on my desktop. I have tried kalyway 10.5.2 and leo4all v3, and am currently obtaining a copy of ideneb 10.5.5. My problem is after installing any version, it reboots and starts to load and my 19" dell display shuts itself off like there is no activity or anything to display, however my computer continues to stay on and the hard drive spins like it is loading. Any help is appreciated.
