Avoided "Waiting for root device"

Hi all,

 

I've got a medion desktop PC which I've added more ram and a new hard disk to. I decided to install OSX after a great installation onto my MSI Wind "hackintosh".

 

Whilst trying to install I kept getting the "still waiting for root device" message. Id made all the suggested bios changes, still no cigar.

 

So ... somewhat frustrated, I put the 1TB sata disk into a "usb sata disk reader", and connected it to the hackintosh. I then booted the hackintosh with the portable usb dvd reader attached with the kalyway 10.5.2 disk inside. Voila it booted, and I was able to select, format and install to the USB disk.

 

Once the install routine had finished I removed the disk, and placed it back into the medion. Rebooted and went through the final part of the setup process. I then did the 10.5.3 kaly updates, then the 10.5.4 combo update, plus the 10.5.5 combo update ... its working great!

 

Im well chuffed that it's up and running and working fine. Well ... I've not managed to get the built in network card working yet .. but googling to suss that out. Plus I've just learnt that the Creative X-Fi card that Id added to get 5.1 sound has no drivers available! bugger!

 

Other than that, it'd detected my bluetooth devices, including apple keyboard, logitech mx revolution mouse, the two displays and their correct resolution, the wacom tablet, the graphics card ... everything other than the nic and the soundcard!

 

This thread is just a heads up to people that there are ways around the "Waiting for root device" error. But also to see if people can advise on if there are any kexts with a huge pile of nic device drivers, to save me trying to find individual ones!

 

Also is there any progress on the Creative X-Fi ???
