Mapping fn-keys to a generic ibm keyboard

Hey,

 

I tried searching everywhere, but I can't find a tutorial on how about to map the fn-key to a generic keyboard. I would like to have volume control via keyboard (inc/dec/mute). Also I can't make little volume changes in FrontRow, it only goes step-by-step, which is sometimes too loud. I read somewhere that it's possible while holding the shift key, but on my hackmac it does not work.

 

Any hints on that hidden file or even a keyboard layout file is much appreciated.
