willpower101
I've just read five different guides from this site and the wiki and ALL of them expected you to have a working install of mac os on a hard drive to install it. Isn't this a HUGE catch22? Is there a guide to do a fresh install? I did this a LONG time ago and vaguely remember not being able to burn the image with my windows box. Where is there a guide that covers all this in step by step noob form? Oracle67
Give some Hardware specifications before you start. Check THIS for details, it would be useful to read and understand how it works. After recherche just follow the simplified steps of this guide: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/124143-guide-to-do-a-fresh-install/#findComment-878384 Share on other sites
willpower101
I bought my hardware based off the wiki. That's one of the lists of guides I'm talking about. I haven't been through them all but so far it's useless to me. There needs to be a big bold guide at the top of pages like that that's step by step for the complete noob. willpower101
Mainly I'm concerned with booting. I don't want to waste dvd's and I thought I had to do something wierd last time (like maybe extract the dmg to the base of the hard drive i'm going to use?) My friend said he thought he remembered Kalyway would boot, but maybe that you had to burn in from within osx, which becomes another catch 22. Hardware: Intel E2180 processor Gigabyte ga-p35-ds3l motherboard w/integrated sound nvidia 8600gs 512 ddr3 video card wd 500gb hd (can't remember the model) [new reply] hey it looks like I may have found a decent guide. I'll try this first. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=112708&hl= [....i hate this automerging {censored}] Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/124143-guide-to-do-a-fresh-install/#findComment-878460 Share on other sites

willpower101
Ok, i'll check that out. It looks like the guide I posted was moot because yet again, they expect you to have OSX installed in order to use disco, to burn the image of OS X that you want to install....
