Hi!

I'm going to get myself a new build, and why not take OSX86 into consideration? :( How will these parts do?

Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 2.53GHz (1066MHz) Socket 775 3MB L2 Cache

Asus P5N-E SLI 650i Socket 775 PCI-E Onboard Audio ATX Motherboard

Geforce 8600GT

OCZ Branded RAM: 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 4-4-4-15 PLATINUM XTC

SATA HDD

:)

Also, I've tried to find something that explains it properly, but it seems that some installations need LAN and Audio patching. How exactly do you do this, and is it possible on Ubuntu (I don't have Windows)?

Thanks!

Go for Intel chipset rather than nVidia 650i - it's more compatible and overclocks better. Something like a Gigabyte G31M-S2L.

Check the full compatibility lists at the Wiki - http://wiki.osx86project.org.

That card works well, but see if you can get a ATI 3870 - they're awesome.

All the guides to patch your hardware is on the forum, but if you get the motherboard I suggest everything works out of the box!

You mean this motherboard, yes? http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?GIG-G31MS2

Never used an mATX mobo before, should be interesting. :)

My budget is really quite tight, and I could do without spending money on another graphics card if I can help it (the 8600GT is a spare I've got lying around) - will the 8600gt work okay out of the box? If not, and I hate to feel like I'm ordering you around or anything, but is there any cheaper card than the 3870 that would work as well? Most graphics-intensive stuff it'll be used for is photoshoppery, video editing, the occasional not-really-recent game!

Many thanks. :)
