Macmeister
Hi all, I have an issue with playing games on my hackintosh. So far I have tried 3 games and all exhibit the same problem. One is Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, another is SPORE, and the last one I don't remember (some free game found online, really just for testing.) All three exhibit the same issue: Once the game enters full screen (usually the first time it launches), the resolution changes to 800x600. No biggie as I can change it in the game. The issue occurs when the game changes the resolution to my monitor's native 1680x1050 (it's a 22" LCD). Again, the game switches resolutions fine, and I can play the game no problem, but when I exit back to the desktop, fonts are glitched, and by this I mean they get blocky. OS X windows also display blockier than normal. If I switch back to the game, all is well in the game. If I exit the game, the issues don't disappear. I have to reset the computer to get normal graphics. Switching resolutions does not help at all. If i can configure a game for windowed mode, I do, but by default most games go full screen. Now as for my hardware, I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R (Edited 8-25-08 for typo, accidentally typed in GA-P36) with a Core2Duo E8400. 2 GB Corsair DDR2 PC-6400 RAM, GeForce 7600GT PCI-Express, 250 GB System Drive (Sata II), 200 GB Data drive (Sata II). DVD-R/W. I would include a screenshot, but the funny thing is that when the desktop is back to normal, the screenshot looks normal too. Best I can describe it is watching a standard def tv show in a widescreen tv, stretched out, pixelated, but no fuzziness/filtering. Anyone else experience this? Thanks! Macmeister
It's connected using DVI. I guess I can try with a standard D-Sub VGA cable...couldn't hurt...I will let you know! Macmeister
Here's an update: I tried connecting using a standard VGA connection, no luck. I also tried setting the desktop to a lower resolution and then going into the game and setting the resolution to native (1680x1050). This still did not correct the issue. In the next few days I will try re-installing the OS with another distro combined with the 10.5.4 update. I'll let everyone know at that time if that corrects the issue or not. BTW, I should mention I am running 10.5.2 Kalyway with Natit. Macmeister
Ok, so I wiped out my current install and installed JaS 10.5.4. Still does the same thing. However, if I change the resolution in the game to match that of my desktop, restart the computer (to correct the glitch), the game plays fine. When I exit to the desktop, all is well. There's one more test I can try when I get the chance and that is to swap out my 7600gt with a x1600 Pro and see if it's an issue with NVidia cards or drivers on a hackintosh. But it's no big deal for now since I don't game a whole heck of a lot on my Mac. Beerkex'd
Same thing happens to me when using DVI. With VGA all is fine though. I'm also using a Geforce 7600 GT with Natit. There's a thread about this problem here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=70007 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/122014-question-regarding-an-issue-with-gaming/#findComment-879995 Share on other sites
Macmeister
Hey, thanks! Wish I had saw that earlier. Did a quick search and perused through the forums, but only thought to look in the gaming one, as I never really change my resolution except when playing games, and even that's rare. I'll switch to VGA and give it a go, though I suspect it will work just fine.
