I'm running iATKOS 4i on an MSI 975x Platinum. I'm using EFI, and everything literally worked out of the box - including audio and LAN. My SATA controller is in IDE mode (couldn't get this board working in AHCI mode for some reason). I have three hard drives, all MBR (not IDE). I'm running the vanilla kernel on a Core 2.

What software updates can I safely do? Which ones should I avoid? The point upgrades (like when 10.5.5 comes out) are what scares me, because to be perfectly honest, now that my computer's working, I don't really want to get stuck reinstalling again. However, I know that sometimes the security updates patch the kernel as well, which theoretically shouldn't be a problem, right?

Additional info - before I began installing my software, I did run every single software update, including a security update, with no problems. The install disc already had the latest 10.5.4, so it didn't do any point upgrades.

Thanks in advance!

I'm running the vanilla kernel, but I noticed some of the posts on the forum mention that USB support is killed by Apple's point updates. I've been out of the game too long - iATKOS 10.5.1 worked TOO well on my old non-EFI system so I didn't bother with any of the updates until I upgraded the system. When I replaced the board I did a full reinstall with iATKOS 4i.
