Jackal23 Posted August 15, 2008 Share Posted August 15, 2008 I have lots of problems so I will say what I had and what I want. I have two internal hard drives and one internal hard drive. On the first I had Windows and then a FAT32 to share data. On the second HARDRIVE I had 40GB unalocted for Mac retail. Then two 26GB where Linux was installed (Ubuntu, openSUE) then swamp. and on my external hardrive I had OS X 86 installed from iAKTOS, and then FAT32 whihc has all my backups. I was using OpenSUSE GRUb bootloader on the MBR to boot into Windows, Ubuntu's Bootloader which then went to Ubuntu and OpenSUSE. So I wanted to install Retail OS X on my second hard drive first partion 40GB using htis guide http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=76404. But there was a problem. I need to format the drive type to GUID (GPT) when it was MBR. So i didn't want to lose Ubuntu, I am happy to reinstall OpenSUSE. So i backed up Ubuntu with Macrium reflect on windows. Then I went into mac and split my second harddrive into four partions. First for OS X retail so I formated it HSF+ with 40gb. Then two 26GB FAT to restor ubuntu and OpenSUSE to (I would change it to Ext3 later) and one 700MB for Swamp. Then I installed Chamelion EFI and then tried to install OS X retail but I get an error The Installer could not validate the contents of the ‘Essentials’ package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. So i decided to repair Ubuntu and then install openSUSE. turned off my computer and couldn't boot because Grub has gone. So i installed Ubuntu rebooted went into Xp to restore. XP picks it up as one hard drive. (I now know Xp deosn't wrok with GUID) Now grub only works if I restart if I shut down then turn on it won't work. OpenSUSe won't install GRUb. So I guess the problem is the GUID partion. Does anyone know how to install OS X Retail using any type of EFI to install on a MBR partion type. Or how could I get GRUB, Windows and Linux to run perfectly on a GUID(GPT) partion type? How do I do that? <EDIT-- I need to syncranise the partion table with diskutil in Leopard. How do i do that.
