Hey all!

I have an Acer Extensa 5620-4801. I don't really know what wireless card it has, but I know that it has a bcm43xx chip. I tried the Broadcom Enabler.sh file and that doesn't work. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Let's start by verifying your actual hardware.

Look in XLabs, download and install PCIUtils v3.0.0

Execute the following terminal command and report the wireless section:

lspci -vvnn

Finally, thanks for the reply.

I tried to find it in Ubuntu after trying to get the wireless working with no success in Leopard.

The PCI comes up as 4315.

Thanks!

I guess looking in XLabs forum was too difficult for you, due to the lack of information I am unable to help you so all I can add now is good luck and hope you get it figured out.

I admire your patience, BuildSmart. I have none for lazy, clueless and ignorant people.
The same questions over and over again are starting to take their toll, if I get any kind of resistance or dumb questions about "what do you mean" my generosity is done and I move on to help the next person.

The laziness is probably the most offending thing that occurs when trying to help someone, they don't want help, they want someone to do all the work for them.

In defense of the "lazy person", here is a link to the thread for the utils in question which would have been helpful if you provided.

I'm also struggling to get my network interfaces working and this tool should help me identify what is in my machine. Thanks BuildSmart.

Am I expected to do all of the work, can the user not make any effort to look for the tools?

Are you kidding me? First off, you are replying to the thread and therefore putting yourself in a position of helping someone. Then you complain that, because YOU can't be bothered to provide a link to the tools you reference, that the other person is lazy for not having to go look them up! That has to be the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard... you will help someone, but only as far as you can be bothered.

To be helpful on a forum requires infinite patience because there is a very diverse set of people asking for help. If you don't have any patience, I wouldn't bother offering help.

Yes there are people that ask the same questions over and over again, but that is life. The people that have learned to search the forum, read FAQs and understand how to find information will always be replaced by someone else who needs to learn these methods...

There is responsibility on both the poster and the responder. They need to research to the best of their abilities. In my case that research means finding time between my crying newborn son, my very busy job and finding time to relax. So sometimes I rely on the patient and helpful people on forums who will answer my rather newbie and ill researched questions. The responder needs to reply with the most accurate information they can to the best of their ability... Your best ability was clearly short of posting a link to the actual tool. But don't go complaining that the end user is lazy when you're just at fault...

Rant over...
