kmkl
Ok, so I just installed Kalyway 10.5.1 on my Dell 10.5.1. The installation itself went without a hitch: ( I will try to recap most of the key information I think are needed to diagnose this) (Summary at bottom) Popped the disc in, typed '-v' at startup, saw the text load on the screen, and it loaded setup. Erased the disc. And made a partion of ~40 GB for OS X (Guid in HFS+) and 15 GB of empty space for Windows. Went to customize and only chose SSE2 (since my machine is SSE2), and GUID bootloader was already selected. I checked the disc. Said it was fine. The installation progress began. (I also opened up the Install Log) Originally the installation said 1 hr 20 something minutes remaining, then that number went down to 59, then to 44, 43, 39, 38, 37, 36, 28, 22, 18, and began counting each minute after that. (Of course those numbers are near estimations, and it jumped after about each step in installation) (The total install time was about 35-45 minutes) While it was installing the Log reported that about 90 - 95% of the steps went smoothly, with some failures, such as not being to able to find a directory, and so on. However I wasn't totally freaked out, as most of the problems were Firewire, Network, maybe Bluetooth, and a french language problem as I remember. So then the installation completed with a Big Ol' green check-mark, and I restarted it (by pressing restart in the installer) It restarted and asked which partition I wanted to boot, I chose DellOSX (The name I gave for the mac Partition) It started with a grey screen, with the Apple logo (which was slightly stretched, but okay) and the spin wheel. Took about 45-55 seconds to load and a blue screen popped up. (with no cursor or beachball anywhere) The end. I thought that the blue screen is normal as I see it every-time I start up my iMac, but after about 2 minutes I realized this wasn't going anywhere. I started up again, this time pressing any key for Setup commands, and -v First the larger white text on black came up, then the smaller, finer white text came up. Heres what I remember from the smaller text: (only stuff that had stand out) >IOPPC (bridge? maybe not) failed (I don't thing that is what its called, and I don't think its important >Vid: Family specific matching failed or something like that >Vid 2: same as above (and this carried on for about 3 more turns) and >Login Windows Application Launched (or started ) >Starting Then the blue screen appears again I wait, nothing again. I also noticed that the computer/HD/thinking/blinking light stopped blinking entirely, and only Power, and occasional (every couple of seconds) blink of power light. Bluetooth was also blinking And Caps nor Num Lock lights worked when toggled (as a result of computer stopping) I tried one more time just for kicks, nothing. Sigh. So this morning (as that was last evening at about 12 AM) I popped in the install disc again (Kalyway 10.5.1) and went through big text and little text, but this time, it stopped at the blueish grey screen, just like when starting up from HD. It also said (in the small text) that com.apple.systemstarter failed to count number of files in".../.../StartupItems": No such file or directory (this seems important) ( It also repeated this 3 more times) it also said sandbox- unit error as well as couldn't read user-specified computer name (and local hostname) then it said some other failed stuff, but It went by fairly fast. What went wrong? All times I didn't use the staple paperclip method. Should I? And this morning I found a guide : http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...amp;#entry42460 that says OS X will not boot up on a laptop unless unless it has a VGA monitor attached. :\ Is this true? Is there anything else I can do? Here are my dell specs: 1.5 GHz 1.24 RAM (upgrade) 60 GB HD (40/15 split) Intel GMA915 Graphics card. SSE2 2200b/g wireless. Some more info: When I got the .ISO from the bay of pirates, I checked the MD5 checksum, and it didn't match Kalyways checkum... But I decided to burn since it took 3 days of downloading. I used a DVD-RW, so if it the iso was in-fact bad, I could rewrite. Right? I think that is all the info needed. Summary/ TL;DR: Installed smoothly first time. Restarted after install Mac OS is booting Goes to grey screen with apple and pinwheel, finishes Goes to blue screen and everything stops (no cursor) Looking for a diagnoses and solution Thanks! Hope this thread actually gets answered. Ok, read the tutorial all the way through, and connecte an old monitor through VGA. So my question is, if I apply the paperclip trick, will it work?
