Panja
Hi all, I'm looking for a Wifi USB stick that will function flawlessly in Leopard. I'm using WPA2 on my wifi router so I would like to get an USB stick that can handle that within Leo. Any recommendations? A stick that is recognized as Airport card would be best! I have checked the HCL on the wiki but I could not find anything about supporting WPA2. Thanks in advance! Guest BuildSmart
Is there someone that can help me out?No USB will be recognized as an AirPort card. You don't say if it's for a desktop or laptop. If you want a device recognized as an AirPort card you have many options for AirPort "third party wireless", if you want one that is recognized as a Real AirPort then your options diminish, if you want 802.11n functionality then they get even lower. I am currently doing some R&D work with antennas and I have cards available, SEE: 802.11b/g (1 card available) or 802.11b/g/n (2 cards available) The 802.11b/g/n cards are without antennas but you can buy antennas cheap on ebay (I just couldn't wait for delivery) and these cards are recognized as real AirPort Extreme cards after I updated the firmware. Panja
Thanks for your reply BuildSmart! It's for a desktop, HP dc7700. But I do not want a PCI card as my pc is a small form factor desktop. Which means I can not put any PCI card in it as it wont fit. Thats why I wanted an USB wifi stick. Sorry I meant "third party wireless". As long as it supports WPA2 I'm happy So is there any USB wifi stick that is reconized as "third party wireless"? If not... I will need to go for PCI but it needs to be low profile card so it fits my dc7700 Small Form Factor. Panja
I have thought about that but it would be more handy if someone could tell me a good card that fits my desktop. I can buy it online and it saves a lot of hassle for me, plus the Wiki does not say if any of the cards works with WPA(2). Panja
Thanks for the reply 9898jjj!! I'm checking the (Windows) specs at the moment and I can't seem to find the support for WPA2 security. Can you tell me if WPA2 works on your system? Thanks in advance! These are some I can get and work with WPA2 under Windows: * D-Link DWL-G122 * LevelOne WNC-0304USB * LevelOne WNC-0306 * Linksys WUSB54GSC * Linksys WUSB600N * MSI US70SE * TP-LINK TL-WN620G Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/119353-wifi-usb-stick/#findComment-851461 Share on other sites
jessem
I've purchased and used a Level-One and an Asus wifi USB stick and they both run the RLINK drivers and they have both died (the level one after a month, asus after a few months).
