So here's the deal -

just installed iATKOS v4i - 10.5.4 on a dual boot - Vista and Osx, using darwin bootloader to control it.

Read up a lot on my network cards, turns out the 4965AGN is a sore subject around here i guess, and the 88e8040 Marvell card also doesn't have a working driver. (correct me if i'm wrong, please)

so i'm looking to purchase a new card to get my hackintosh on the net - does anyone have a suggestion for the best and easiest one/way to do this? should it be usb based? any information would be appreciated.

also im looking for people who have also gotten their hardware for their 1530 to work. specifically sound, and mic. (want to record music with protools... or garageband)

Hi there. I have the exact same config. The new iATKOS v4i - 10.5.4 with the Intel N wireless card.

And also same here no sound. However I did follow the suggestions of MacGirl. I got a Dell TrueMobile card from eBay for $20. The Dell TrueMobile 1505N card. It was very simple to install (a couple of screws at the bottom of the system), plug and play.

The only thing i'm not digging is the range. The Intel Card that we have uses 3 antenna's. The dell card only uses 2 and the signal isn't as good, however it does work, no drivers just plug it in and it comes right up.

That all said, I'm awaiting for a fix on the Intel 4965, because i can't stand the lack of speed. I'm considering getting a usb to ethernet adapter just for the mac. The main reason i wanted this is to take a crack at the iPhone SDK.

I don't know if you've seen this thread :

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=83039

It's pretty much a dell based thread, however most of the hacks seem more geared to the kallway install. I've tried the Components package by conotone, however it didn't solve my sound problems, however it did resolve restart and shutdown, but screwed up my video drivers.

Let's keep looking, as we both have the same install and nearly exact same laptop (i have 256gb nvidia as well) if you find a fix on something please post it and i'll do it as well.

great - thats exactly what i was looking for. "can't stand the lack of speed" - is your new card just not as quick? i'm afraid i don't follow. I also cannot find the card on dells website, or ebay. perhaps i'm just blind...

its also a bummer that you haven't gotten your sound to work, because I only want the hackintosh so I can record music. meh :-/

i have the nvidia 8600 gt 512mb card.. so thats one difference between our systems

eh, double post

so apparently someone had success with their sound on the 1530

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=81628

and it wasn't clear how, but apparently follow these instructions from macgirl:

Install the STAC9228_0x83847616.zip from http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32859 or from my guide.

and another thread for us worth looking into:

[Compilation] Dell XPS M1330, M1530, Vostro 1400, 1700

ill be trying out sound tomorrow, ill update how it goes

As to the Dell TrueMobile card, it only uses 2 antenna's as opposed to three that the intel card uses. I think that might have something to do with the signal strength. However there could be other factors, such as my physical layout, the fact that my card was used (from a old inspiron 6200).

Here is a link to a guy on ebay who has 9 of them for sale all new, this will work for the our notebook :

Here is a link from dell (it will work for the xps 1530, even thought it says inspiron.):

512mb??? self installed?, dell only offers 256mb 8600GT

Anyway i've ordered a new xps m1330 with a dell 1505 card, so i'm going take the card from that and see if it improves the signal strength when it arrives.

Any luck with the sound patch?

Cheers

I can only find the 1505n card in the dell shops for more than 100 Euros, that's around $150!!

you've got it for 20 bucks?

Is there another, cheaper option?

thanks

edit

I saw the 1395 card:

http://ecomm.euro.dell.com/dellstore/baske...1f-0b6b8e41c128

Is that competable? I think it is...

The 1395 should work too. It's a pretty standard component that fits most dells. Here is a link to the part on the dell us side

It shows two 1395's meaning that both would work. I got my 1505 Draft N card that was pulled from an 2 year old inspiron. They all appear pretty standard. You can call dell parts department to ensure that the card will work for your dell.

no luck on the soundcard - I didn't really try hard though. unfortunately, my vista box is trying to update to sp 1, and fails on the install because of the dual boot I have set up. Now, everytime I attempt to log into windows, it starts to install a 45 minute update, and then fails and uninstalls it before I can log on. I'm wiping my computer today, starting from scratch. I have a 2004 mac book pro that I'm going to do my work on. sorry guys

I've use iAtkos 4i dual boot with Vista.

Works great.

I have a Dell Dimension520, everything works except the integrated Nic.

I went to Office Depot an bought D-link DFE-530TX - $4.99 on sale and works perfect. OS X recognizes it and runs great

Thank you again to Apple and all crew building iATKOS.
