First I thought about getting a Mac mini. But when reading about the hackintosh I realized how overpriced and underpowered the mini is. It sacrifices value for space. I'm looking for something with much more processing power, so I can quickly turn dvd rips into mpeg-4 files, work with photos in iPhoto, and stream/sync media with a few Apple TVs.

I'm basing the system around the Intel Core 2 Duo Wolfdale E8500 3.16GHz w/ 6MB L2 Cache

(but I don't mind using the 3.0 GHz E8400 if I can get more compatibility)

Motherboard: Intel DG31PR microATX

(I've read good things about this board, especially the fact that only the integrated audio needs a patch when using the 10.5.2 leopard install, but I'm open to other manufacturers and form factors)

RAM: Looking for 2x2GB config. Open to suggestions.

Video card: Nothing too special. Looking at Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 512MB

(I've read that you need the ATIRadeonX2000 Leopard.pkg patch. Wouldn't mind using a comparable nVidia card instead if someone recommended one)

Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31000340AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

(Intel DG31PR's SATA should work out of the box. I may use a Seagate 500GB drive if I'm feeling cheap.)

Optical Drive: Samsung WriteMaster SH-S203B SATA

(Just looking for something that can read DVD+R DLs)

This is my first time doing this so I would really appreciate comments on hardware compatibility or suggestions for different hardware for better compatibility.
