@_zerocool
Hello, i was searching the forum to find some good mobo where with some confirmed tweaking you get vanilla kernel (for updates), sleep, shutdown, reboot, 5.1 sound, and maybe lan working with wireless. I found some but that are models which are around 6 month old and i have troubles finding theme here in greece from local resellers. So can anybody suggest me on a direction i can look for. The rest of the pc will be a core 2 quad and 4 giga ram, with a decent vga. Thanx in advanced. BlackCH
2 mobos 100% working (except for intagrated graphics) Intel DG31PR (1333 FSB, ICH7, Audio, Network, Supports Quadcore CPUs) ASUS P5K-VM (1333 FSB, ICH9, Audio, Network) Nearly any reseller in germany will ship it to greece. I dont know how much they charge for that thou I can recommend this two from Austria; where Im living at the moment. http://81.223.93.179/main.php http://www.mylemon.at/ I've bought quite a lot of stuff there. The local shipping is cheap and fast; again I dont know how would be to greece. @_zerocool
Thanx for the quick reply Well i found the asus mobo here at 71 euro, which i think is a good price. The only downside i guess maybe is the mini atx form, as for the graphic card i dont buther cause will put an pci express in. Can anyone else confirm that its working 100% and i mean its getting very close to the real thing. Cause i have a already a system which is 95% working but thinks as shutdown, sleep and audio is giving me a headache and dont let me enjoy my machine to the full potential. BlackCH
Belive me; it works 100%. The sleep/restart it also depends on the CPU (I guess is a combination of both). As for the audio, you will have 2 outputs, mic in, line in, and digital out (spdif). Firewire and network works out of the box, and you need some drivers for the ICH9 HDD controller. The link on my signature will provide you with all the drivers you need. I have a full vanilla install with chameleon bootloader; everything works pretty smooth. BTW get a Nvidia graphic card, if you can here is a dedicated thread: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=62111 but theres many more boards that works pretty well. @_zerocool
My speaker set up is 5.1 and i have three outputs. Currently my asus p5b does have only one output and there are no drivers for it and so only stereo sound is possible. In the asus you have where do you plug the third speaker plug? And one more question, you said that the cpu may be the problem when it comes to shutdown and sleep. My guess for the setup was either the 8400 or the q6600. Which one do you suggest? As for now i have the same cpu you have in your sig and i suppose there is no problem with this on the shutdown/sleep problems. BlackCH
With the audio output theres two driver options; either you have 3 analog outputs and no digital output, or 2 analog outputs and 1 digital output (stereo SPDIF). In both cases you'll get line-in and mic-in as well. Both drivers are in the package on my signature. Personally I use the digital output because I do audio production. As for the CPU I would go for the q6600; If you wish it can be nicely overclocked up to 3 ghz or more (the asus board has very good overclock features within the BIOS). @_zerocool
First of all thank you for the help you have provided me with. After some thinking and more searching i came across the gigabyte P35-DS3L which is also very compatible and there are lots of guides with full working hacks. So i tend to get this mobo. One think i am concerned is this, i have some issues about the cpu, what i mean: The upcoming snow leopard will utilize better multi core cpus than the current version is now. Does it mean that they have full 4 core support built in? If yes, the future proof cpu would be the q6600. But considering a majority of review the 8400 dual core is better on every day task cause most applications and mac os doesnt utilize all cores. Is this true? What do you suggest?
