Hi,

I am excited to build a Hackintosh! But I'm a little new at the scene and could use some advice. I would like to build a decent system at an affordable price. I already have a good case and a 500w power supply, so please disregard those two. I am looking for a build that can run vista and leopard and can play a few games. I would like to run Leopard as the main OS and have Vista as a backup for gaming. I'm shooting for around $400-$600, and usually use Newegg. Thanks for any input!

Motherboard: Gigabyte P35-DS3L - $60

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 - $195 - you can go cheaper here, but get a Core 2 Duo at least)

Ram: 4GB ram - $73

Video-option-A (low end): EVGA 7300GT - $55

Video-option-B (higher end): EVGA 8800GT - $150

Hard Drive: any SATA/300, such as a 300G samsung - $70

Optical: any PATA or SATA drive, such as this LiteON drive - $21

This brings the total to $474 for the 7300GT, and $569 for the 8800GT. You can tweak the HDD, CPU, and video card some to meet your specific price/power balance, but be mindful of the compatibility list in the case of video cards, and stick to Core 2 CPUs. Note I chose the 7300GT and the 8800GT based on Apple having shipped mac pros based on those cards... other revisions of the cards are also reported to work, and in fact my hack has a 7800GT in it. The motherboard is the same as the one I'm using in my hack, and it works quite well, and isn't that pricey.

Good Luck,

-Josh
