Ok. I have bought myself an new computer, and I decided to go with an XP/Mac OSX dual boot.

I followed the guides for installation and I have XP and Mac OSX successfully coexisting. I even managed to get Mac OSX to recognize my video card, network adapter, and the onboard sound.

I have a few strange issues. The first two definitely belong here, the third, I'm not sure, but I will include it just in case somebody happens to have a quick answer, otherwise, I will repost it and tackle it after the first two issues are over.

Issue #1: I have an HP 6980xi printer. It is running over wireless (it's a printer with a built in wireless print server). I would like to get this printer working under mac, but I can't seem to find a whole lot of information other than the driver wasn't added until a later version of Mac OSX (I am currently on 10.5.2). Where do I start trying to hook this up?

Issue #2: Is there anybody working on an extention to support Sound Blaster cards? I have a Creative X-Fi that I would like to get working. This isn't quite so important since, as I said, the onboard sound works, it's just inconvenient to have the sound coming from two different jacks on win32 and mac. The other reason I mention it is that I am a developer myself, and might be willing to take a look at writing a sound blaster driver if nobody is working on it.

Issue #3: Most of the time, Mac OSX works pretty good. however, every once in a while it will hang on boot up. It just gets stuck at the grey apple screen. Is this a known issue and are there any obvious things to try?

Ok, I bet a 50 bucks that your wireless card is an Intel 3945 a/b/g. I would be an heartbraker but for now, it DOESN'T work on OSx86. No exceptions. A lot of people working to resolve issue by moded or working on kext driver.

Solution: USB dongle cheap on eBay for 10$ or like the D-Link dongle works for sure (recognized as AirPort Extreme yes!)

X-FI sound card external USB works but built-in not at this time. Or if yes, I'm not reading much updates on topics but for myself nope. Sound is include in IO Family USB something in your CD in a package or kext.

Try Verbose mode. When Darwin Bootloader is displayed, hit F8 key and after at the black screen with the boot: in left, type -v. If it's not significant, type -x (for single user or know as equivalent of "Safe mode" in Windows but with command line no GUI. More infos on topics about Boot arguments.

Enjoy or trying to...

Excellent try, but the PRINTER is wireless. The computer is wired, and the network already works. In fact, I'm typing this in OS X right now ;)

I was afraid of that. I do have a back up option of building an auto-switching speaker box (fairly simple, just monitor the line level and switch to the line with the higher signal). I might take a stab at a sound card driver myself. I do have a friend at work who used write sound card drivers for a certain linux vendors, so I have access to knowledge about driving the cards, I just need to figure out the mac os driver interface.

Thanks for the tip about verbose mode and single user mode. Those will hopefully let me track it down to a certain component that is getting stuck.

No problems;)

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but your printer is wireless fine. But somehow, you can by using your wireless card into your laptop to print remotely. My concern is about if your wireless card is fully functionnal?

Ok. disregard the whole printer thing. Apparently the wireless on the printer had stopped responding. I went into windows XP to check the settings there and discovered that it didn't work either.

Printer is working fine now. Onto the occasional hanging problems
