esbowman
I've searched quite a bit and checked out the wiki but haven't found my hardware in any HCL due to Dell's proprietary motherboards etc. So I thought I'd post my system specs here in the hopes that a hackintosh guru will give me the thumbs up or down. I've heard of many people having issues with the Creative Audigy sound cards, but I believe this system has built in audio as well so maybe that's an option for me. Problem =============== Windows XP is acting crappy and it's time to reinstall or attempt to create a hackintosh. I really don't care if it doesn't work, but before I go through the hassle of trying I'm hoping to get some suggestions/feedback. I'd like to go with Leopard but Tiger would be acceptable as well. Specs ================== PC Model: Dimension XPSGEN5 Processor: Intel Pentium D 830 / Intel® Pentium® D CPU 3.00GHz / Socket 775 LGA / One Dual Core Processor Memory: 3072 MBytes / DDR2 / 333.3 MHz / PC2-5300 / I have two 512mb modules, and 2 1 gig modules for a total of 3 gigs of ram Video Card: eVGA 8800GTS 640mb PCI-Express 16 Audio: Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM) Network Adaptor: Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller So, is it worth a shot? And if so what do you guys think this will be comparable to? Some sort of iMac perhaps? I'm thinking about purchasing 4 - 8 gigs of ram for this machine if I can sucessfully make it function as a Mac. I also would like to toy around with this machine vs. buying a bunch of new hardware to build a 8-core hackintosh or something similar. Suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you!
