aceboy222
Hi, I've been trying to successfully install Windows XP or Windows Vista on my computer with virtual machines, but every time, I get kernel panic. I have tried VMware Fusion 1.1.2, 1.1.3, and 2, Parallels Build 5600, and Virtual Box 1.6.2. I have been the closest with Virtual Box, when I install XP, when it says 3 minutes left, I always get kernel panic. Any suggestions? I use a M2N-SLI Deluxe (nForce 570a) and an AMD 6400+ 3.2GHz. Thanks. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/111946-using-virtual-machines-on-amd-hackintosh/ Share on other sites
s3phir0th115
I'm having the same issues. I can never get a windows xp virtual machine install to finish whether I use VMware Fusion or Parallels. I have even tried patching VMware Fusion with Marvin's AMD Utility, but it still ends up crashing. I believe it has something to do with the programs depending on Intel CPUID's and thus crashing on AMD, although I'm not entirely sure. Either way, I would like a solution to the problem as well. dies
Can't really help you, except to say that yes both Fusion and Parallels work just fine on AMD machines, near native speed for XP. Try the latest Voodoo kernel, BUT make sure you follow ALL their recommendations and also make sure the kernel is named /mach_kernel and not something else. s3phir0th115
I will have to try that with the voodoo kernel, as I didn't know there was any kernel that actually solved the problem like that. I'll be sure to report back here with results whenever I get around to trying it. mac_cute
That's weird:Parallels/VMware Fusion works fine on AMD system. You should scan your install with Marvin's AMD Utility and see if there is a patch missed.Anyway,if you have a patch missed, voodoo kernel is not going to help you 'at this moment'.If you are 'desperate',run your vmware workstation from Windows and create your Windows XP Virtual Machine from there, then open it from your VMware Fusion.
