Hey! I'm having my hackintosh almost 100% working. My only problem is that CI/QE is not working. I have an Intel DG31PR motherboard, and it seems that noone has made the onboard video work with CI/QE yet. So, I´m looking for the cheapest working PCI-e card because I´m not looking for big gaming experiences. I just need the acceleration to work and the ability to change video resolutions.

So, which one would you recommend?

Thanks!

Avoid any card with shared memory.

This card, a Zotac 7300GT 256MB works great- both CI/QE work when patched with NVInject 2.1, and kexts edited (at least that's the way I did it). Dual monitor works (I tested it at 1680x1050) with a VGA-to-DVI adaptor. At $20 after mail in rebate, it's pretty hard to beat. The main downside is it is fanless, but if your case is well ventilated, that's a plus. Personally, I wouldn't invest in anything NVidia below the 7x series. (I have a PCIe 6800GT that works fine in my accidental MHack, but they're surprizingly expensive and there are much better cards). I dunno anything about ATI cards.

I'd recommend check the 10.5.2 HCL video card section for lots of leads.

By the way, I'm building a MHack with the Intel DG31PR motherboard (and an EVGA 8600GT) for a friend who wants a Mac. I've heard this is a kickass board for Hackintosh, and it's cheap. Other than video performance, how is your Hackintosh running with it?

A few days ago I got an old ASUS Nvidia 7100GS 128 for only 6€ (shipping inclusive) from ebay. It works quite well if you dont want to do extreme gaming (I dont). I already have a Sparkle Calibre 7600GT (that was also very cheap!) but I bought the ASUS 'cos it was so cheap I figure I can eventually use it for a new build. I guess almost any NVidia 6/7 series PCI-e card will work either with NVInject, NVKush, or with EFI strings.

BTW, the DG31PR works very well too. Everything out of the box (except integrated graphics), and supports quad core cpus. The only downside is that it has only two memory slots (max 4GB).

Zaap: I forgot to mention that I'm not in the states, so links to newegg are of no use to me as I can't buy from there :P I can't even find that model in the places I buy here. :D Other than video performance, it's working great at the moment. Even with the onboard video I'm able to watch videos. But it looks like VMWare Fusion doesn't work without CI/QE, and that's why I'm looking for a card. The only problem I'm having is connecting to other PC computers through the network, although the other computers can connect to the Hackintosh just fine. I couldn't figure that out yet...

BlackCH: I found a MSI NX7100GS . I'm guessing it should be like the Asus you have. Btw (as I see you're using my same motherboard) Please read my answer to Zaap, are you having the same issue with the network?

Cheers!

I should get the parts for my DG31PR build tomorrow. I'll let you know if I encounter any networking issues like you describe. I thinking it may not be specific to this board, as I've had my old G4 Powerbook (running Tiger) behave pretty much exactly the same way.

First off, wow. ;) I'm really impressed with the DG31PR. Rock stable little board, and the system feels just as fast as my Gigabyte build that cost nearly twice as much.

Hope it's okay to post a few pics from my build. Using an 8600GT (NVinject 2.1+modified kexts), 2GB of Muskin DDR2 800 RAM, a 500Gig Samsung SATA HD, an old Pioneer DVR-109 PATA, SYBA PCI Firewire card (works great) and a dirt cheap Rosewill case and 450W PSU. (The case is actually pretty nice). The rig is almost silent.

Temp setup- my friend I built this for is gonna love this machine.

Anyway, lothar_osx, I'm glad you got your graphics working. As for LAN: During install (Leo4Allv2 10.5.2- for whatever reason Leo4Allv3 installed, but wouldn't boot with a can't find root device error) I chose the Realtek RT8187 LAN driver. On first booting the installed OS, a message popped up that my Ethernet connection wasn't secure, click to fix or ignore it. I clicked to fix, then after it did whatever to 'fix' the connection, there was only a restart button. (Worth mentioning I guess, because I haven't seen this on any other install I've done).

After the reboot, my LAN connection has been perfect. Right off I had no problems with the machine seeing any of the other machines on the LAN, and connecting easily to file shares. Everything also connects easily to the Mac.

Everything, audio, shutdown, restart, etc, works perfectly.
