First of all, specs:

Dell Inspiron 531

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ 2.60GHz (Brisbane) SSE, SSE2, SSE3 CPUZ

2.00GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT GPUZ

Before we continue, would anyone like to recomend the best version of Leopard or Tiger for this system?

The most successful install I have had is with "Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 & PPF2]" I have also tried the deadmoo tiger 10.4.1 vmware one and its faster than the JaS but I can't run a lot of apps (PPC apps i guess) to run... In the JaS version, (in vmware) everything works fine, just a bit slower than deadmoo's image.

Ok, so now... I first tried to do a native install through vmware. I created the virtual machine and used the 3rd partition that i made using Acronis Disk Director 20gb, 0xAF (ShagOS Swap). The same thing is made using diskpart in this tutorial. I boot from the disk, open disk utility, only the VMware CD drive shows! Do I have a scsi drive?

So, after that failed a few times.. I just installed it to a virtual hard disk and used the qemu utility to convert it to .img. Then I used dd for windows to write it to my 3rd partition. I reboot, go into Acronis OS Selector and select OSX and it asks if I want startup options... I do platform=x86pc -v.. Don't quite know what platform=x86pc does, but somewhere I read it speeds it up... -v is so it shows all the stuff thats going on instead of the grey screen with apple logo...

I got "OCHI CONTROLLER WILL BE UNLOADED ACROSS SLEEP" a few times... I think I may have done dd again or whatnot but then I started getting this error that I noticed had something to do with USB.. I googled for it and someone recomended to disable USB.. That really isn't an option but I will try it. Both my keyboard and mouse are USB so i'd have to make OSX default in Acronis OS Selector, restart, disable USB in bios, restart, and then let osx load... The keyboard still works in BIOS so I would easily be able to change it back, but I don't want to do it because, even if it does work, it will be pretty useless without keyboard/mouse.

I also got the "Still waiting for root Device" error alot... but that may have been with a different file.. I have been through alot of versions..

Can someone help please?

Another thing I will try is the deadmoo image. The first time I used dd, I didn't have Acronis OS Selector installed and I got a HFS+ Partition error. Now that I have the OS selector, I would still be able to boot into vista if osx fails :) (I had to reinstall vista cus I couldnt boot into anything :P )

So that about sums it all up... if anyone has any suggestions, or an alternative version, please post. Leopard was a misrible failure.. I tried to install it through vmware, no go.. I got a flat image and it still wouldnt work, vmware and dd. It would just restart.. wouldnt even have a chance to enter any startup options..

I used dd to write the JaS image (i made the image using qemu thingy from the vmdk) to my 3rd partition and I rebooted... I got the following:

OCHI CONTROLLER WILL BE UNLOADED ACROSS SLEEP

USB caused wake event (EHCI)

and it just stayed there... Those were the last 2 lines of what was on the screen..

I researched this and found out that its got something to do with whats plugged in the USB ports.. I only have my keyboard and mouse.. but, my mouse is wireless.. could that be it? I'll try it again, but this time, with the little receiver dongle unplugged.

UPDATE

I unplugged the reciever thingy and it still gave the same error messages.. the only other thing is the keyboard..

UPDATE 2

I just remembered my keyboard has 2 USB ports on it.. nothing is plugged into them, but could that cause the error?

Just want to post another update: I get the same messages with the deadmoo image. I also disabled USB in the BIOS and it still wouldn't load :gun: I couldn't see the errors because i couldn't type -v at the screen because my keyborad wouldnt work ;) But after a minute or so on the apple screen, there was this circle w/ line through it at the top of the apple.

Hail folks!!

Sorry about my english, I´m from brazil.

I have that computer too.

But mine is a Semprom 3600+, with 1.5GB Memory with no Graphics Card.

I used the Leo4allV3 and the worst trouble that I got was that "register loop" after the installation.

The system is running perfect here. I'm also thinking in changing the processor to a Athlon X2 a plus memory! =]

I really hope that this can help you at all!

"Tchau!!" =D
