About This mac Bad Information

Hi guys

 

Recently i buy a new cpu core 2 quad e6600

 

The system profiler not show the processor name (But show the four cores)

The system monitor show the four cores.

In terminal with command sysctl -a the processor name show intel core 2 quad e6600

but in about this mac show this : 2.4 core 2 duo e4500

How many change the name in about this mac section?

If you want to change the "About this Mac" info (for your new processor),go to

 

/System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/Resources/[your language].lproj

 

If you are using English,it will be English.lproj

 

Now,with any Text Editor,open AboutThisMac.strings and search:

 

"ABOUT_BOX_MULTIPLE_PROCESSOR_FIELD_FORMAT" = "XXXXXXXX"

 

and replace the XXXXX to Core2Quad E6600 or whatever you want.Save the changes and you are done.

But this don´t work for me.

I try with English.Lproj and Spanish.lproj with no luck.

 

Any ideas?

Did you repair permission and reboot?

 

Make sure your Bios is showing 4 cores if not return the CPU it might have a defect.

For the CPU info

 

Put the attach file to /System/Library/SystemProfiler, notice the attach file is not the same as the first link you edited. I got confuse my self the first time.

 

Dont forget to repair permissions its important.

The attached file work very fine in my system profile!!!!!!!!!

 

But in about this mac is showing the same!!!!!!

The attached file of the cpu info in my system profile work fine

Just so everyone understands...

Changing the "ABOUT_BOX_MULTIPLE_PROCESSOR_FIELD_FORMAT" is only if you have multiple processors, not multiple cores. You want to change these lines like so:

 

Change "ABOUT_BOX_SINGLE_PROCESSOR_FIELD_FORMAT" = "%@";

to "ABOUT_BOX_SINGLE_PROCESSOR_FIELD_FORMAT" = "Your processor info here";

 

You can also change: "ABOUT_BOX_MEMORY_FIELD_FORMAT" = "%@%@";

to "ABOUT_BOX_MEMORY_FIELD_FORMAT" = "Your memory info here";
