... but now that I have you attention;)

Last night I spent some time getting Kalaway to run on my computers. It's build is as follows:

CPU INTEL|C2D E4500 2.2G 65N 2M R

DVD BURN SAMSUNG|SH-S203B %

HD 500G|ST 7K 16M SATA2 ST3500630AS

MEM 1Gx2|COR 240P TWIN2X2048-6400C4

MB ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI-AP GREEN

It all started by accidently not checking the options screen to select the driver pre-install. Before this point I had followed the instructions relegiously. I was completly nervous and thought it wouldn't even boot. However, the funny thing was that it worked, totally (with the exception of no sound). Hell I was even able to surf the internet via ethernet.

Determined to hear sound I reloaded Kalaway and this time remembered to make my selections at the options stage before the OS installation. This time after the reboot I got nothing. Just a cycle of reboots that went over and over again.

Frusterated I tried just about everything I could. Working over and over the instruction, making sure they were allright. After 7 hours I gave up.

The next day I decided to experiment. I went ahead and tried installing the DVD with various options. In the end I found the only one I COULDN'T select was the first Vanilla Kernal option (the second one works fine I think). So far I have everything up (except the WiFi which I have alkready downloaded a driver from realtex for). So basically what I am wondering is....

What is the Vanilla Kernal? What does it do? Is it completely necessary?

If anyone else had had similar problems I would appreciate some insight, and perhaps even some suggestions to change it. Like I said, it's pretty close to tip top right now. I was just wondering whether I would run into serious problems with programs or updating or anything without the Kernal.

Thank you for your attention!
