I have a HP Vectra VL420 MT with a 1.8 Ghz P4. I tried Leo4All, it reboots the computer in the first few seconds of booting off the DVD. I tried Kalyway 10.5.1, it will boot into the installer but while installing it will reboot the computer half way through.

The only that will install the OS with success is iATKOS 1.0ir2. I tried formatting the disk with both GUID and MBR. I tried both boot loaders. They all give the same result, when booting the machine I get a flashing underline at the uppler left hand corner of the screen.

I admit I dont have a good understanding of how the boot loaders work. I figured I screwed something when I tried to install one boot loader over another.

If you do the 1.0ir2 and get to the flashing cursor....

Search on google for " flashing cursor insanelymac" I guarantee at least 20 hits on how to fix it! Download and burn a version of linux like ubuntu or gparted to be able to make your partitions active!(tip)

So far I have not resolved the boot loader issue yet. THere are a dozen different solutions offered to fix the issue, half of which I don't understand and the other half don't work. I can get it to boot into the hard drive if I leave the installer DVD in the drive, apparently the installers boot loader will pick the hard drive over the DVD.

If I format with guid i get a message about the system preferences plist cannot be found. If I format as MBR it will get part of the way into the Apple logo boot screen. However it reboots after about a minute. I'm using no SEE and the minimal drivers I thought I needed. i plan to install again without any drivers.
