saintjude
Problem: My aluminum Apple keyboard kept 'losing' keystrokes; you'd hit a key and nothing would happen until you hit it a second time. It seemed almost like the keyboard was falling asleep (the first key press would 'wake' it, then it would work normally until it sat unused for at least a few minutes.) Solution: Turned OFF "Legacy USB support" in the motherboard's BIOS. Notes: This one drove me nuts for a while because I was thinking it was a keyboard or OS problem (these keyboards have had firmware problems.) Motherboard: Intel Badaxe 2. The low-profile 'aluminum' Apple keyboard design is very nice; good key feel, very solidly built, handsome, and much easier to clean than a traditional keyboard. It even seems to resist spilled water/beverages a bit (because of the small gaps between the keys and the housing.) Recommended. :-) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/104828-solved-lost-keystrokes-using-apple-aluminum-keyboard/ Share on other sites
ddjc
I too have the same keyboard as you. But I did not have any lost keystroke problems that I could notice. However, I have noticed that there is a lag with the keyboard... it repeats a bit slow, but otherwise, when I press a key it registers and thats all that matters right? I'll try making this change to see if I notice a difference. Anyone building a hac, should get an apple usb keyboard of any variety. I doesn't matter if its the current aluminum one, or the past clear one.... Just get an Apple keyboard... It makes the experience more fun. ddjc
Okay I've tried it, and after rebooting I've noticed two things. Bear in mind this condition, prior to having rebooted and changed to Legacy USB: disabled. (Asus P5K). I was noticing slowdown on my apps, and general chugginess. (computer was on for 30hrs) After rebooting and disabling Legacy USB in bios, OSX felt fast again. Now, back to the initial problem you had with the keyboard feeling like its asleep. Well in my opinion, there was input lag prior to rebooting, but I dont know if the decreased input lag after rebooting is accountable due to having changed bios legacy usb to disabled, or having the computer rebooting / and the typical zippy feeling, eg lack of input lag is usually due to a freshly booted computer. Placebo effect maybe?
