diogan
Hi all, My wife's comp has been acting up as of late, after running smoothly since last september. It started shutting itself off on it's own randomly, and has now progressed to where it runs only for a minute or two and then shuts off (sometimes less than that). I checked the processor temp in BIOS and it simply steadily climbs until the computer shuts off. I took the fan off, cleaned off the old heat sink compound and applied some new compound, and made sure that the fan was seated on the processor again properly, and then booted up. Again, the temp just keeps climbing and then the computer shuts off. As far as i can tell, the fan is running fine, so I don't understand why it is getting so hot now when it never used to do that. The processor is a pentium D 805 and the motherboard is an MSI 945GM3-F. Does anyone think it's possible that the sensor on the mobo is reading the temp of the processor wrong? Thanks for your help. macbrush
It can be many things, but first thing I would try is swap CPU, if I have a spare.
