I have a Samsung P30 Notebook with a running Mac 10.4.1 running. Everything is really fine, but as there are several new updates available (10.4.5) I tried to update my system.

After downloading the prepatched (with JAS 4.2) 10.4.3 Iso, I'm now stuck.

In the bootloader Menu I select "-v" and then my problems begin :

In my Bios I have

- PS/2 Mouse enabled

- Legacy USB Support enabled

The installation stop with

Waiting on <dict ID="0"><key><IOProviderClass</key><string ID="1">IOResources</string><key>IOResourceMatch</key><string ID="2">boot-uuid-media</string></dict>

Then I disbled my Legacy USB Support in my Bios and now the installation continues, but only 1 step.

I now get a new message:

ApplePS2Trackpad: Synaptics TouchPad v4.6

But my system doesn't do anything else. I waited about 1 hour but nothing happens.

So I disabled my "PS/2 Mouse support" and started again.

After that booting stucks again with

Waiting on <dict ID="0"><key><IOProviderClass</key><string ID="1">IOResources</string><key>IOResourceMatch</key><string ID="2">boot-uuid-media</string></dict>

A new try :

I downloaded the 10.4.4 Restore DVD and the autopatcher.

But there was a new problem "hardware not compatible ...."

So I replaced the bootfiles from the autopatcher with the Max...' 10.4.4 files and used my 10.4.1 system to reapply the patch.

It works great and I can access the boot menu again. But absolute unimportant what I do, I running into the same problems with my 10.4.4 installation as I had before with 10.4.3.

I had the idea to replace the ApplePS2 Extension with an older one (10.4.1) but was not able to find a destination on the Restore DVD.

Any Ideas ?

OK, back again and still no news ;)

In the last few hours I tried installing 10.4.3 (8f1111) but ... same problem as before.

My system hangs up when trying to initialize the ApplePS2Trackpoint.

As I said, my 10.4.1 system is running great

hmmmm... I'm not sure why it would hang. I have a synaptics touchpad too, and the 10.4.3 dvd didnt hang for me. I would naturally suggest checking permissions, but if you are using a ppf patch, there isn't too much that could go wrong. Maybe the touchpad isn't what is causing the system to hang... It could be something else.

Did you actually get the OS installed? Or are you currently trying to boot from the DVD?

At this moment I'm still trying to install it, or better said ... I've given up

I still have no cluewhat is going wrong for me.

As far as I can see, the biggest problem at this moment is, that installing 10.4.4 or higher is not possible, if 10.4.3 is not installed.

I just found a new torrent (10.4.4 DVD PATCHED) uploaded 20 minutes ago. (Check the Pirates!).

As far as I understood the description its a 10.4.4 install disc, which allows an opütional 10.4.5 update !

As soon as I got it, I will try to install this one. Maybe something has been changed in that release and I will be able to install 10.4.5 directly

No .... I got still no news. I tried to use the latest 10.4.5 dvd which worked great for my "normal" PC (P4 3.06 HT, Asus MB, ....) but it still does not work on my notebook.

I also tried installing via VMWare, but no effort ;)

Using VMWare brings another problem ... my CPU does not support PAE and without PAE support vmware crashes

Another solution I want to try is : Install 10.4.5 on my "normal" p4, burn the image on a DVD and then boot from that dvd. After booting successfully "restoring" from the dvd on my hdd.

The only problem : I'm currently out and sitting in an internet cafe ... far far away from home ^^

Maybe you can try to do this and get it to work, or share your experience, I will be back next Saturday only

That sounds bad ... really bad ...

But how is it possible, that other people can install it on their notebooks ?

I found this thread here, and I think they are describing our problem

http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?sh...pic=7356&hl=pae (posting #7)

As I'm still not at home ... could you please try this :

If I understood you correct you installed 10.4.4 on your usb Drive and boot it on your notebook. Could you try to install 10.4.3 on you usb drive ? Maybe it's possible to run this version and then update to later versions.

Maybe it will not run, but then we can say having tried everything possible.

  • 2 weeks later...

No news :hysterical:

I read several other sites and we have both the same problem :

no PAE Support

There have been several success reports, where people have been able to use 10.4.5 on a non-PAE notebook, but as far as I read, it's like playing in a lottery. I have given up and currently wait for 10.4.6

Maybe there something will change with that realease.

But !

I found a torrent called "OSx86 Update 10.4.3" at Demonoid. OK, its not a true update, but several files are patched to improve speed. "About this mac" still shows 10.4.1.

The Description says : "This, ladies and gentlemen, is only an update of some of the basics from 10.4.1 to 10.4.3. Safari and flash work together without problem. Quicktime is updated...and many more. Enjoy. "

I was able to install this and osx now runs more stable and faster.

this is all I could do :guitar:
