animemaniac
K I've just installed Leopard on my XP PC. I have 3 primary partitions and 1 non-pri. C, D, Bup and Leopard respectively C: 33GB, windows XP, primary, NTFS D: 160 GB, media storage, non-primary, NTFS Bup: 8 GB, formated to Mac Journal Extended, primary Leopard: 25 GB, leopard, primary External-HD: 250 GB I've fallen heads over heels for Leo so I've decided to migrate over from windows XP but the problem is that my sister also uses my pc when she needs to do homework. Sadly enough every single hidden file on my C and D drives which contain over-18 material (no porn...mostly met-art stuff for my viewing pleasure and reference) is now clearly visible for my very much underage sister to see. I would like to know if there is a way to hide/password protect files in my NTFS C and D partitions or better still disable access to my partitions C and D when my sister logs on to the mac account I created 4 her. If you have any other suggestions on how to go about this problem please share. ________________________________________________________________________________ I would also like to know what is the recommended way to write on to an NTFS partition. After reading around these 2 methods came up using the paragon software or the MacFUSE-Core-10.5-1.3.1.dmg with the NTFS-3G. The paragon method seems straight forward but the MacFUSE and NTFS 3G is a little different, I've been reading around and it seems some say you just need to install the MacFUSE and NTFS 3G .dmgs, reboot and your done but others state you need to enter codes in terminal. I would also like to know it these methods are boot ready, meaning I can write on my NTFS drives as soon as leopard boots up or do I have to enter some codes everytime I would like to write on my NTFS drives. Lastly I've heard of data corruption issues when using such drivers is it prevalent in newer versions as well? jdxxx
Just install MacFuse (first) then NTFS-3G. reboot. It works. No terminal commands, nothing to do. Some tiny risk of data corruption exists, but most people find it stable. To be extra safe, I suggest NEVER writing to your Windows system drive from the Mac -- also remember, you could erase something critical to the Win system if you mess around enough. However, I have done it many, many times, and do not have any problem (yet....) BTW: thx for the last time, regarding the my graphic driver issue, turns out I didn't have an issue to begin with, just needed to use my oth DVI port. animemaniac
http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/ also works wonderfully. well thx. but on most site I checked out there were more complains about data corruption on paragon than of MacFUSE & NTFS-3G. Anyway just installed MacFUSE & NTFS-3G and it works like a charm. And I installed Hide Folders 3.0.... to hide stuff, easy to use application. Now time to fully migrate to Mac and keep windows XP for gaming Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/100854-hiding-writing-on-ntfs/#findComment-724704 Share on other sites
